well now, good thing im in football shape hahahah. yeah but blue lake usually doesnt get really thick. thickest ice ive seen there was about 15 inches. this was awhile ago about between 4 5 years ago.

i've seen the ice around here get between 24" and 26" thick. most years it's 12-15" max.

ha-ha, they're all small lakes. 300 acres or less. you'll be fine! it's just one lake that we can't use gas augers on.

as far as the 4wheelers, remember where i live.

Hey Holehawg....you coming over here to NY to fish with us this year??? Looking forward to it!

Pooley....... I can practically "SPIT" on the Empire State Bldg. from where I live!!! I'm still pushing for somewhere in Sullivan County for the big day....maybe the So. Fallsburg F.D. contest, or maybe Swinging Bridge, Morningside Lk., Superior, etc. You coming up to Syracuse to the show?? We'll be there Fri./Sat.

yepper ...i got the time this year...lower woods in pa is getting real close... iced over around 1or 2 inches..just not stable enough..just need some cold..if rain /snotty snow holds off..in about a week or 2 ...

cant wait to see youse guys in ny/nj...should be some meeting of the minds...

if held in sullivan co and some folks need a place to rent i can hook up w/ house on delaware river...

im about as close to manhatan with out being their bayonne is right across the hudson its about a hours drive to any ice fishing nj waters hopatcong is my main lake for hard water fishing

MrEsox....Somers is in Westchestert almost at junction of Rt35 and Rt.100....Home of the infamous "Bob's Bait & Tackle". Also within only a copuple of miles of Cross River Res., Amawalk Res., Muscoot Res., Titicus Res., Croton Falls Res., Sodom Res., Boyds Corners Res. and a few more small lakes. If you stay in Somers, you can be fishing any of the above in less than 15 mins!!! You do need a DEC Reservoir permit to fish these (it's free).
These are my main hunting grounds for the last 40 years. If you're coming down this way....get in touch, we'll show you around.

Iceslammer: Gas augers are not allowed on NYC reservoirs....... BUT...... In my own personal experience, the authorities have not really hasseled us about using them to cut our holes. They did, however, ask us to remove the units from the ice after we cut the holes. I am not recommending using a gas auger on any reservoir....they DO have the right to ticket you if they want to.

where is everyone going to park at greenwood lake. yes it is a very large lake with alot of species of fish in it but it has very limited parking. i was there at day lite one morning and fired up my gas auger & someone living on the lake called the police & they were there in a heart beat busting our chops. walt

greenwood lake does indeed have a parking problem. i don't know how to get around that. i will look into it.
walton lake is a possibility, as it has parking, and brown trout too.
harriman and sterling forest pose a problem due to no alcohol, and no gas augers on blue lake.

pooley walton sounds great for us nj guys its close but if you can arange parking on greenwood thats great to cause we can use our nj fishing license never fished the ny end heard its alot better then the nj end

How about Mongaup Pond in Livingston MANOR N.Y. It's just north of the L.M. exit off RT.17. N.Y. State Park with easy access, lots of parking, and motorized augers are O.K. Approx. 150 acres,mean depth approx.12 ft. Freezes early in this high hilly area of N.Y. Fins & Feathers shop right off the exit for bait and gear.Lots of perch of all sizes. Some tigers.crappie's S.M. Bass & L.M.Bass Bullheads etc.Millions of Pick's. Never got skunked there,but it's much better early in the season(1st.ice).
Later in the last weeks of Feb.and the first weeks of March it seems the pencil Pick's will clean you out of bait real fast.Great place to start the kids on.
Count me and my buddy in wherever it happens.

when you fish greenwood lake you can fish anywhere with either a n.y. or n.j license but you have to follow n.j rules for size & species. walt
