Smelt Spearing???????

yup we got the go ahead  totaly legal on all non trout lakes yea now its time to get out there and spear some he asked me if i was the one that was from higgins lake

Although Higgins is stocked with trout and managed for trout, it is not a "Designated Trout Lake", so yes, an angler could spear for pike or smelt in Higgins Lake.  It is on actual Designated Trout Lakes where spearing is illegal.

You can use dip nets for smelt April 1 - May 31 on all non-trout streams in the Lower Pen for smelt, suckers, bowfin, carp and gar.

I don't believe you can dip for smelt on a stream that comes off an inland lake like Higgins, Mullett,Crystal,etc.

well they must have changed the rules i didnt think you could on any inland stream but it says april 1 to may 31 all inland non trout streams you can use dip nets but each county has its own exceptions like crystal no netting in cold creek

its alot of fun when the smelt are up close to the surface i take a spear with me and my poles just when you see one up top grab the spear breaks the silece if your not catching anything and it adds a few more to the bucket

I don't think that any one is brave enough to try it out except me and you Ketchemall. That's OK cause if they don't want to go the extra mile than they can have the extra space in their stomachs  .
