according to Lenz it looked ugly this morning....he managed to step on but the top was6" of slush with water under.....hoping the ice comes up a bit as rain subsides...he willl keep up updated for possible cancellation....

In my opinion, it should be fine.....Lenz is updating tomorrow.....might be a bit sloshy walking the first 100 ft or so but I am hoping most of the ice will rise and drain the surface water from the rain we had...K

no problem...we will set up on the east side of the island as wind block...I am assuming I can give you a ride?

Im also bringing a friend of my daughters..a long time soft water guy but new to ice fishing...Bryan may come also..not sure yet....if thats the case, the two of them can ride over in Bryans car..

without a doubt had a good time today....met a great group of guys who love to fish as much as i do....karl, once again thanks for the auger, really appreciate it..and the chowder was delicious...not to many fish but still was a great day(what wind?)...got my first lesson with a vex, great machine...between the perppermint patties(which i need to start packing myself) and the bathtub moonshine, it felt 95 degrees out there today....once again, nice to have fished with you guys...and did the 3"11 stand?...

Well, the flags were slow but the social was very nice...we set up perfectly on the lee side of the island with no wind.  It actually got balmy against the rocks and alot of us actually shed layers...great food...we had some barbie shrimp, chourico (sp) and peppers (excellent), and chowder...

Anyway, we ended up with 17 people and Jigmaster5 came in for the second shift....

We ran an oreo derby for heaviest fish....with half the proceeds going to Joslin camp.....
Lenz won the derby with a 3 lb 11 oz LM....he generously gave back a portion of his split for the Joslin Kids...

We ended up with $72.00 for Joslin....

While the fishing was slow overall...we did have some bass action from Capt Shay, Mike Dugan, FallRiverIceMan and Lenz....
The jiggin for perch and gills was good though with Reelucky's son Tony pulling up over 20 gills and had first time fun with the Vex and Marcum.....

fishin was slow, backside of a low is not good.  caught a nice 10lb millfoil lump. put a semi dead bait back down hole and got the cookie winner.

Great times with a great group of fishermen. The bite could have been better, but
that seems to be part of the recipe for Ma Shanty gatherings.  What couldn't be beat
was the good company and great food that keeps us all coming back !!  New member
Thepatriotsflags and his bud brought some killer Portuguese sausage and some great
stories about the Gilett (sp?) stadium,  Real lucky and his troupe of young ones, Uno's
ever incredible chowder and silly to surcane conversations on just about any subject that
kept us thinking and realing.

Highlite of my day was doing the "plunge" for a Larry.  He kicked off on me at the hole but
I jammed my fist down the hole and actually managed to snag the sucker!! One for the Capt.!!

nice to meet you guys, sorry i slept in.  the 2nd shift was pretty consistent.  i was looking for some big perch or crappie, but i could only find micro perch and lots of sunfish.  fishing picked up after you guys left.  i did live-line one of the micro perch, but nobody came along to eat it.  around 4:30 pm, i switched from a small swedish pimple - tear drop dropper combo to a 1/8 oz kastmaster trying to find some bigger fish.  the sunfish still hit it, so i switched up to a rapala jiggin' rap - and caught more sunfish....and some slightly bigger perch.   ;D

oh well...beats sitting on the couch.
