If you fish 2 hours then charge 1 hour... If you fish 4 hours charge 2 hours.  2 hours fishing = 1 hour of charging.  Make sure the battery warms up to room temperature before charging.

you could use a charger like you get with an aqua vu. when its charging the light is red, when the battery is charged the light is green.

you could probably buy one at radio shack. shouldnt be more than a few dollars.

If it's not an automatic charger, get a digital voltage meter and hook it up while you charge the battery. Let it charge until the meter reads 14.4 to 15 volts. Unplug the charger and let the battery "stabilize" for 10 minutes. Your meter reading should read between 13.5 to 13.8 volts(sometimes a little lower but anything around 13 is good). This will indicate a full charge. If you let it set over night after a full charge, the reading will drop to around 12.5 to 13 but this is normal.

The cycle range and standby range should be printed on the front of the battery and will probably say something like.....

Standby use....13.5 to 13.8v (after 10 minute stabilizing (charger unpluged))
Cycle use........14.4 to 15v (during charge)

Otherwise, invest in an automatic charger from Marcum. Plug it in and forget it.

the auto chargers from marcum are definitely the way to go, no meters, no fuss.

It's funny, I had the same question last year and I believe you answered it then.  My question is: It is a year and a half later and Marcum still doesn't have this info in their instruction pamphlet ?  Icetechy, I believe you have some affiliation with the company and I really think you should bring this up to them.  (If they use it I want some Marcum swag...hat size 67/8, hoodie size XL  ;D)

And I also love my VX 1, this    much.

That's funny Cap!  Waiting for my cut too.. Yeah they know about it and hopefully they will edit the current manual or put a note in each box so the rest of the ice world knows how the charging works...

Got to thinking I may have a charger in the garage that may work as a automatic. Here is the specs on my charger that came with the marcum.
output 12vdc 500ma.
The charger I had in he garage is.
output 12vdc 800ma with
quick charge & high power red
Trickle charge & low green
The red and green are a light on the charger,Will this work for a automatic charger to prevent me from over charging the batt?
