Maybe...could also be 6 inches of snow that melted, or the contour of the lake bottom....

HEHEHEHEHE......classi c.  reminds me of Saturday at the hotel bar:

wife:  "man...that guy filled my wine glass a lot more full that yours when I was there earlier"
me:  "Thinks it's because you are a chick with blue eyes, 5'7", 120 pounds and good looking?"
wife:  "well...there wasn't very many people when I was there earlier either"
me:  "yeah...I'm sure that's it"  (roll eyes)

I was out yesterday from 12 to 5 pm.  Ice was solid in the morning, but was crap by the time i left.  6 to 7 inches but would chunk off by the inches when cutting.  There are lots of thinner spots around wet cracks, and obvious open water. It wasn't nearly as cold last night so i imagine it's worse today

I am curious how this years bluegill harvest stacked up to last years at Big Creek.  Personally  I didn't notice a difference in numbers, but on average the fish I caught were about an inch smaller than last year.  Didn't get  many hogs this year either.  I was finding 11+ bluegill last year, and this year I didn't find one over 10 and very few over 9.   With the poor ice I wasn't able to get to all the spots i like so maybe that had something to do with it.
Probably kept around 50 to 75  for the season.  Too many??   Opinions??

Wow, an 11" bluegill on public waters (especially one which gets as much pressure as Big Creek) is quite a feat.  Don't suppose you have pics of that bad boy(s)?

Nope no pics. I'd call it beginners luck, but I happened upon a spot where I was catching big bluegill  for a month straight last season, but it was open water nearly all season this year.

WOW 11'' huh. The biggest I have seen come out of that lake was 9 1/2'' and I thought that was a hog. The gill bite was steady all season it was even nice to get to sight fish them for a week or two when the water was clear, what I wonder is how everyone did on the crappie. I didn't do s--t this year. some of the best spots had little or no ice late in the season when the crappie really turn on.

How thick was the ice?

We were sitting on a very loud 5-7" yesterday on W side and had a four wheeler and snowmobile go past at various times.

Bite has been really slow.  Caught 4 last night in about a hour and a half out in the channel.  One really nice, others 8-9''  Caught a couple 7'' gills as well.  Took my g/f for her first time on the ice..  she had fun, caught some fish!  =)

Got any info on this tourney??

Recycled fish? I don't think that is a for profit tournament but I could be wrong.

Bass thumb that is fun when the ladies get some action. I took my two year old the other day and he was able to catch 4 nice gills right off the bat. Pretty Proud!

Thanks.

Just home from BC.  Ice is still 10" easy on the main lake, channel area.  A lot of slushy mess on top currently.  We left due to the wind blowing as around.  No fun.  The bite was pretty slow.  Got into a few decent gills and a couple small crappie.
