how much area is safe for fishing? i've driven by in the summer, and cove doesn't seem too large?

I have a large single burner and propane probably use it for kieths chilli I also have a single small burner that you use the small propane tanks on will bring both . will we be fishing or having an eating contest.I know a chinese guy

I'm in for a few gallons of homemade clam/fish chowder...I'll manage some sort of burner to bring for it....come on by...plenty of bowls

It's locked up past the state boat ramp, that's a fair amount of ice. They hold derby's there that have 50-75 people so I think we will be fine. We might want to think about keeping our sets tight as there is bound to be some local traffic as well.

Well, it looks like we have a good size group of guys and some good food planned. Heard from a couple of locals with maybees. I was wondering what people felt about the 12:00 - 12:30 fishing moratorium for a meet, greet and eat? Sounds like a good Idea to me but I was wondering how others felt about giving up a half hour of fishing time, especially those that are travelling a good distance.

Weather is looking good for Sunday, look forward to fishing with you all.

Why cant we fish together and keep the tilts tight as a group and mingle while we fish?....we should set up "together" and fish together and get to know one another...I know I'll have my iceshanty button on my coat....lets just yell out "Ice Shanty?"...

can any of you guys get 8-10 inch goldies I cant get any around here I guess the bait shop got them in wed and word spread like wild fire will be more than happy to pay for them only need 6

I'll check my shop tomorrow...but those are bigguns....we normally deal with pike bait shiners at 3-4 inches max here in our area.....we will have dead herring though

I map quested bartons cove in gill ma is it near greenfield

Sorry guys not going to make it. Just got a call my sister is in the hospital with some kind of liver failure. I am going there with my dad to stand by and hope for the best. She is only 28. I am scared for her.

Gill borders Greenfield. When I tied to mapquest it I had to use Main Rd. Gill which is about a half mile further up Rt. 2. It should be right around two hours for you. Once you go over the French King Bridge (you'll know it when you see it) you are about 1.5 miles from The Cove. There is a small wooden sign on your left (if your heading West) and a small car dealership/garage on the right directly opposite from the entrance. I'm sure some will drive by it but then you see the cove immediately on your left and know that you have to turn around and head back for it.

4-5 inch shiners should do the trick. I've never used suckers but I know they work else where.

I can allready taste the chowder Unoman.

Be careful with the herring i here its against the law in mass./you may want to try something else like large sardines /work just as well and just as smelly./good luck sounds like its gonna be a good time./cant make it this time but im sure you guys will be having another one soon because this one will go over good. river herring are not legal but sea herring are .You can still get flats of sea herring (frozen)at bait dealers that sell in bulk.

The herring we have is from a Mass Bait shop.....and am told its legal....must be sea herring...not sure of the difference .... herring run from ocean to river to spawn...

the diference is the river herring are typicaly blueback herring if you ever saw one you would see the diference.The colors on there back are more than just blue its like a blue purple gold i dont know you would have to see for yourself .One thing I do know is bluebacks rock for stripers

I am going to bring 12 garlic chese 12 hot Italian sausages and simmer them in a tomato basil sauce with red green pepers onions and garlic that will be sauted in olive oil first and sub rolls. I picked up 35 bowls.
we should have enough food for a small army of ice hounds

Was out all day moving snow so I didn't have a chance to stop by The Cove and get any reports but I heard of a 5lb and 6lb 'Eye that came out of The River earlier this week. Hopefully the bite will be on for us in the A.M.

The menue sounds amazing. I was planning a fish fry for the ice but my bud who was going to bring most of the fish had a family thing come up so it is going to be marinated shrimp on the barbi !

just got home from the hospital. donna's dad doing ok but they can't stabilize his heart rate. I can't even pronounce it let alone spell it. her mom knew something was very wrong and called 911. quick response made the difference.

he is in good spirits, cracking jokes.

we'll be heading back tomorrow

donna and i thank you all for your thoughts and concerns
