good to hear crappie boy!  When you get it done you should try to get some pictures of it and put them on here so we can see it!  Good luck with it!

You planning on tipups and/or jigging. How many tipups and jig poles are allowed where you are?
Hope to see and here of some great line pulling tells.  ;D

me and a guy from work came up with this "modular" idea for a shanty....it's actually 2 independent shanties, each with folding shelves and benches. each one closes up pretty airtight, but when put together, as you'll see, makes one h#ll of a party house... :P

I can haul both halves out w/ my sled

a little trouble on the way out to the north end of a favorite pike fishing spot... :-\ plus the sled started to overheat due to lack of snow on the ice.....p.s.  thank God for picks.. ;)

setting the two halves up 4' apart so the floor lands on the blocks

finally, blocking everything up after the floor, ceiling and walls are opened up and screwed together

if I had more pics, I'd post em for ya Mac. it's disassembled into the two pieces behind my garage right now, but basically it's 2" x 3" cedar construction with sheet metal siding with a plywood floor and ceiling. I got some heavy duty rubber for the roof and eaves. the floor and ceiling are hinged to collapse. if I get a chance to take more pics after work, I'll post em tomorrow.

mostly jigging. here in Iowa, if hard water season is the same as open water....we can only have 2 rods/tip ups per person.

Post pics of the interior if you have them.

Very nice idea.

Just goes to show you, that Modular homes are not just Tornado bait anymore....
they are also good for perch bait now! :D

Wow!

Home away from home.

I noticed the couple of locks.
In the door from a previous installation?

How about some inside shots.

Mac

The door has a new deadbolt lock which we installed. Generally there have been very few problems with breakins where we fish so we tend to leave stuff in the shanty since we are out there almost everyday. So far we havent had any problems or heard of any other break ins.

that IS a sweet shack mainedog.  I've got back to back rossignols under mine, with u-bolts bolted to the frame on both sides to tow it from either end,  but nowhere as near as much clearance. haven't had a problem plowing snow yet, but I can definately see a foot of snow causing a problem.

Nice Shack for sure...

do you keep it at the same lake all season, or bring it from place to place?

LOL....I remember seeing that picture here last season.

I was actually surprised how well my shanty(s) hauled over the snow, they're really not heavy at all and rode right up on top of a 6" blanket of newly fallen powder.  I WAS using my sled though....I'm thinking that using a 4-wheeler might put the runner ski's right in the tire ruts and cause it to really get bound up.... :-\

either way....I'll take 3 feet of snow over what we had last year. I think I got 5 miles on my Formula III, and that was 2 1/2 miles out the lake and 2 1/2 back... ::)

back then it was  )supposed to be portable!    never moved it once it was set up  then from there converted it to hard sided   didn't like the cold of the frost / water  dripping down on you   and if you spent the night you froze!    Freeze no more I thought!   took the base and ends   and added insulation and luan to it  now this year expanding by at least 4' longer

I built a metal frame to support the shack.  The skis are 8" wide  by about 9.5 ' long and then I bolted on some non-friction plastic (google UHMW).  The ski standoffs are about 8" tall.  The shack is lag bolted to the frame.  The hitch attaches to the metal frame using pins on either end.
The shack stays near my camp in Maine during the off season. The shack is 6'x8'.  The green metal makes it heavy.  It is insulated and has a small woodstove, that drives you out of the shack even when it's very cold and windy. It's really comfortable for 2-3 people.

I`m considering buying a NICESHACK for this winter but it costs $2500Can. I`m starting to think I can build a heck of a nice shack for that much dough.

There are plans on this site and the internet to help you build a shack I built one 8 x 6 with slanted roof  cost was about $250   heres the IS board for shanty's http://www.iceshanty.com/ice_fishing/index.php?board=33.0

What ever you decide to do just remember think lite or have a lot of friends that like to lift heavy objects. The heaviest part should be the floor with good wide skis. Metal 2x4's, you can carry all you need for a 6x8 shack in your arms. Make big windows with plexi-glass but have one that will crank open for a vent in case you use propane for heat. I used that Grace ice and water shield for the roof. Once that sticks on it will never come off.
