Exactly.  Ice camping is definitely something I want to try a few times this year...heck, maybe I'll bring my hub, heater, and a cot to the gathering and just keep on fishing/drinking through the night!  ;)

Flaming gorge is one of our main places we spend our winters. Chase lakers all day and sit around ice camp at night and catch burbot and pups. Now if we could just get the big lakers to cooperate in the day I wouldn't have to go anywhere else  ;D  sorry to muck up your gathering thread

When do they get safe ice at Lake Havasu?
We're born, we live for a while, and then we die.  Sounds like a good reason to go ice fishing.

As long as the Slayer beer sled makes it out to the spot, Chatty would be fine with me, lol.
But we might have to pack lighter to get stuff out on the ice!  Which is fine, too.

Last year it wasn't really like we were fishing  ;D I think maybe one crappie was caught between 15 to 20 guys over 6 to 8 hours? we might have been able to produce the same amount of fish in somebody's backyard  ;D it'd be nice to actually catch fish at the get together

BWAHAHA.... nope.  ;D

Location: Chatfield State Park, Marina Parking Lot
If I remember last time, we walked out from there.  Other ideas?
Is the construction screwing the marina up?

Date: Saturday, Jan 25th??
Seems like most can make this later date?

You guys are always welcome to join us, we usually hit it from January until the ice isn't so nice which can be mid February till mid march. For those not wanting to camp on the ice rooms can be booked in Manilla if we're on the ice to the south which we prefer, but we've spent alot of time in the north and then its Green River for rooms.

When do they get safe ice at Lake Havasu?

That's good stuff  :roflmao: that place would be shut down with an inch of snow

CO_Dinky should have some intel on that. The North boat cove might be an option. Pretty easy walk to the water.

The North Ramp could be good, too. I know parking is ok there --- at least it was in the fall.  Easy access to set up Sausage Fest Basecamp.
And we could just walk out along the dam to better fishing locations once the "magic hour" arrives for those who want to seriously chase some fish.  But whatever people think is fine!
We have plenty of time to decide.

Really?!? We had boy scouts with tight lines on 3” one year. When we got together for a group photo the ice sank and water crested over the top.

CO_Dinky should have some intel on that. The North boat cove might be an option. Pretty easy walk to the water.

Technically, all areas of the park are open now (except a small area immediately East of the Marina where they're working).  But things have very much changed!  Parking lots have mostly moved to different spots, so most have longer walks down to the water now.  We'll have to see how things shape up in the next month or so, hopefully the weather changes or we won't have any ice...   :-\

The North Ramp could be good, too. I know parking is ok there --- at least it was in the fall.  Easy access to set up Sausage Fest Basecamp.

We have plenty of time to decide.

North ramp usually locks up sooner than most of the lake, and would certainly be one of the easiest spots to set up and get down to the ice.  There are a few springs in the area to watch for though, where the ice is usually thinner.  Plus, we usually see a pressure ridge that forms just outside the cove, that can restrict access to the dam from the cove.

Chatfield ponds!

I had a similar thought.  Haven't been able to ice that for a few years now, and really want to get on there.  It's really easy access, and there's a ton of Perch in there!

Kingfisher cove could be another option too.

If the ranger says it aint 6" thick they kick you off the ice!

Tell that to the bastid that kicked me off! ;)

What???  When did that happen?  I've not seen the rangers say that ice access was not allowed, it's usually up to the individual to decide what's safe.  I know you'll fish when it's just "thickafugginuff" though!  ;)

I was talking the ponds to North of Chatty. They're controlled by City of Littleton.

They shut them down to all ice fishing last year.  I called them last year

The ponds would work good, easy access and Z could fish for Perch. ;D

Yah I like the ponds idea. Easy and perch easy.  You can even fish the river for those pre-spawn walleyes! :o

Yes the small ponds inside of chatty. Easy access and perch city. There’s also some decent bass if people want to try for them.
