3. Carp on the fly.  I know it's one of the latest fads, but you can't beat it.  Bonefishing of the north.
Could you elaborate?

Could you elaborate?
Sure.  They are very smart and wary; extremely challenging to sight cast.  I haven't been yet, but I know that the western shore of Lake Michigan between Milwaukee and Green Bay is a very popular area to chase carp with a flyrod.  I mostly fish them in the Madison chain from my kickboat.

Aside from being so difficult to fool, they are the only fish in WI that can routinely take me well into the backing.  A big pike will occasionally get into the backing after a long cast, but even a medium sized carp will make numerous long, powerful runs.  Watch your knuckles!

1- River Smallies! They fight like demons...
2- Catfish! I hate sitting around and watching my rod for a bite. It is good for a party, that's about it.
3- Pike! A lot of people consider them trash fish. I love catching them.

I'm with RWR- I really don't understand some people's aversion to bass fishing.
It is by far the most popular angling sport on the water.
Easy? If it was so easy why aren't we all making money doing it? Going to a small local lake or pond is one thing. Try a large body of water right after a cold front...

the popularity is what brings it down.  its like a mad marketing rush, because theyre so easy to catch.  thats what i started on, after a few hundred bass, it gets boring.  i like that theyre out in the lake, taking out the stunted panfish  ;D

1. PIKE! Love to catch 'em on ice and open water, and they taste great I don't care what anyone says.

2. Bass. They're just a nuisance fish that hit when you're trying to catch pike. There isn't much challenge catching them (caught a 23" 6+ lber on a bobber and 1/4inch of worm meant for 'gills), no chance of catching a 10 lb fish (as with pike) and are decent at best on the table.

3. Carp! Drop some corn on a hook to the bottom of the Oswego River and hold on! If you can still move your arms at the end of the day then you did something wrong. Wouldn't recommend eating them though...   ;)  ;D

Well, I think this bears two answers...ice and open water.  Seeing as this is IS, not MFF, we'll start with ice.

1 - Perch - very tasty and great fun for the family trips
2 - Walleye - also very tasty, but unless you get into the thrill of the big boys, I just don't find them all that exciting
3 - Hmmm...this one is a bit tougher, but I think burbot might get my vote...when perch fishing with light line, a big one is quite the challenge, not to mention tasty.

Open water

1 - Hmm...I think whatever bites, but I enjoy the challenge of finding crappie and fighting them on light gear
2 - May still have to go with walleye...fun to get into a bunch of fish, but I don't find the fight that great...a close second might be largish pike - can be very exciting, but since they often wrap themselves up, it becomes like pulling in a log.  Bass might be up there too - I enjoy them, but I can't understand the industry built up around them.
3 - Just about any rough fish - we have big catfish around here, decent carp, and decent freshwater drum...all can be a blast.

 1. pickerel because they are pretty easy to catch, decent fight and can be pretty big
2. Bass, the only thing thats ever on tv or that anyone talks about
3. Burbot because they taste real good and they can be pretty big but people seem to dislike them because they're a bit on the ugly side.
Theres only 3 seasons..open water, hunting and icefishing!
