Vt is great at making rules but spending money
Is not our strong suit.i have been fishing vt hard
For forty years and have encountered a warden in the
Field 3 times. In contrast i fish and hunt ny frequently
And 5 out of ten i am checked. I follow the rules anyway
But i am sure this state could generate alot more
Revenue if it put more wardens in the field.

For the record, we were fishing legally. I was licensed and he was 4 or 5 years old.

The reason I stopped going to Colchester Pond is because of the white/yellow worms all throughout the fish there. I'd strongly rather go where those things are less common.
May the fish be with you.

Randy

???  OK?    I've heard that there are "No Fish" ,  To  Many Fish,   and a variety of ways to manage for "lots of flags" and fewer but "more bigger fish"?    I wish we had a Vt. biologist involved in this?    I would hope for a mixed size pike from 12" to 36" and limit the number of tipups  to  5 or 6 ?

Some people want to spread misinformation and keep their spots to themselves. I think we can all understand that. My opinion, Colchester pond is a great spot. You want to know if there are big fish in there? In my experience, there's only one way to find out.

See ya on the ice.

I checked it out Wednesday.  3-5 of good black ice where I was.  I don't know if I would trust it over the next week of warmer temps.  Fishing was slow.  I did get one small pike on a tungsten jig and 3 lb test line.  That was fun.

Good luck! I'm planning a trip there in a week with a few rookies, hoping for decent weather and enough flags to keep everyone happy.

Ice was good 5 inches of good black ice.  Not sure what the snow is gonna be like though.  I didn't jig up any pike, but a guy with flags seems to be getting them pretty good, no huge ones that I saw

I've been fishing it the last two days, solid 5"-6" everywhere I went.  Got into some perch on the jig poles and got about 6 northerns on the traps. Biggest was just pushing 30"

Also fished Colchester today closer to the dam. Landed some pike 18-22 inches and a couple of perch. Ice was a solid 5-7inches throughout.

As an avid pike fisherman in the open water I agree 100%. Seen multiple people with 6/8 impressive pike on their tailgate in the access that you know aren't going to be eaten or mounted. Should be allowed 1 pike over 30" per day year around

Jeez, yeah a place that small can't support much of that.
