Arctic Cat F570, strictly a ice fishing machine. I added a tank bag and a couple of rod holders this summer...

I use my Honda Pilot and Yamaha sled fer running around on the lakes.
Smaller lakes are good for sledding now and are usually safe for driving on by Christmas.
Ice roads generally open in January.

I trail ride a couple thousand miles a year so it's convenient to use my sled. Might not need 164hp to ice fish with but I can get back to the truck quick if I forget something!

1. Truck. 1st choice on accessible lakes when ice and snow conditions allow.
2. 700 Grizzly quad. Typically use early season and late season on remote lakes. Load in truck no trailer needed.
3. Tundra 600 ACE LT. when snow conditions negate first two choices. Requires trailer.

Arctic Cat ATV with chains on rear.  Goes just about anywhere.  I wait until 8 inches of good ice.  Just remember to leave it in two wheel drive.  If deep snow or slush, add front wheel chains and put in 4 wheel drive.  Earlier post by Redneckdan is a really good tip for getting chains tight.  Jack your ATV up, take the wheel off, deflate tire a little, put chains on snug, inflate to correct pressure, and they are tight.  I still use the tension springs just because I have them.

Fishing the Mississippi R. in SW WI, NE IA, SE MN, we have unique conditions best handled with either a hover craft or an air boat. I use a Star Cruise hover craft.

Easily haul two people, a couple of 5 gallon buckets, two flashers, auger. They do not work well on rough, jagged ice, powdery snow, or deep snow unless frozen and smooth. On the other hand, my wife and I came of one of our last ice trips way back up in the back waters and ran over a mile of open water with small white caps. So.......
