If golf is important the brainerd lakes area has a lot of nice golf courses and many lakes to choose from.  Especially if you are willing to be mobile.  My parents live in Deerwood and they are 30 minutes from Mille Lacs and many of the brainerd lakes as well.   Nice size town as well.
