FA predicted a cold winter a few years ago. People were saying the chestnuts dropped early which usually means a cold winter. Well that was the year I didn't get out once. I remember actually one little cold snap in Jan of that year and guys actually got out but that was followed by warm temps and rain. Looked at the long range forecasts every day that year,when they would predict the cold it would change every single freakin time to warm weather. Let's hope this long range prediction for Jan is NOT true or we will be praying for some scraps in Feb. 5 or 6 years ago I was on the ice on my bday 12/19. Now there are guys golfing on Xmas eve. Ugh.

Next weekend I'll be on 16 inches of ice in Arizona's White Mountains. My buddy who lives in Phoenix area wants to give it a try, I hope he gets hooked. Very few guys do it there being mostly a desert, ha-ha!

Yeah, trip up north to NY might be a way to go this season to scratch the itch...Warm winter happens every 4-5 years, nothing new

i saw ice on some ponds but i'm not passing up good boat fishing to drill holes in a shallow pond. I know matt will pull a monster out of one of his secret spots through the ice though hahaha, go get it bro, be safe.

Oh there's Ice and there will be more Ice making on the way. The negativity really sucks coming from those that have been on this site forever. Stay positive!!! Did some scouting today and I gotta say this is just a normal year in NJ! Lakes and ponds freeze and then they thaw and then they refreeze!

If the sleds and augers aren't in the vehicles yet it's about time to get that done. Don't forget to retie those leaders...........

Ha all the negativity. My local early ice spot is capped and making ice. Could be ready to go by tomorrow afternoon. Doubt I'll make it out then a few days warmer but extended for cast looks good for the rest of January. Won't be long that's for sure
