Well I did walk on water today. 2-3" of slush on 2" of ice....only went out 10' or so. Spud bar went right thru a few spots, n others only took another hit. This on a old sandpit in nw iowa. Should be fishable tomorrow.....maybe. overnight temps should get er done...at least not scared to jump up and down on the ice....

What sand pit? In sioux Center?

I'm guessing ponds will be fishable by Saturday. Hope to be on the Mississippi by the 8th. Suppose to be fishing a tournament in Dubuque on the 9th :)

No, it was small private pit. sandy hollow has got to be close, but with the snow, not good. I stopped a week ago or so, had ice, but.....i am guessing got 6-8 with another 6-8 on top of that.

15 straight days of sub freezing temps here in Grinnell. Low winds on many of those as well. Maybe 2nd week of January?

ClamGuy:
I just sent you PMessage about fishing in and around Glenwood area on Thursday (at least check out some areas for safe ice)

anyone been out to check Manawa on Wed? It usually freezes well early and has fishable ice (3-4") sometimes before other areas waters. I'd head up there tomorrow if I knew ice was thick enough to fish say off of Boy Scout Island.

Me and a buddy are going out on Okoboji today. Hopefully going to check out Minnewashta. There's a guy out by trigger resort right now this morning doing some fishing.

There was about 4 inches of ice on Minne yesterday and all the snow and current is making it very weird. Slushy, sloppy areas and still some open water in the middle area.

Krumm is capped over as is Rock Creek. Not too much snow on either so they will both be building ice.

Drove by a couple today around Dubuque. Everything is capping over. Marinas look like they might be capped by tomorrow!! I will report back Friday or saturday and let you know how thick things are.  Really hoping to drill a hole in some ice this weekend! Good luck and stay safe guys!!!

It went well. We ended up fishing on Big Spirit. There was around 4 inches of ice 400 yds off the pump house. Caught a decent amount out there. Not many people were having any luck. It was a real slow bite.

Attempted a pond in ankeny today and had 5 inches of ice already! We caught a nice amount of smaller crappie and gills. Not to bad for the first time out this year!

I found 3-4" on Sunday, lots of dinks biting where I fished, no keepers. Just nice to get out and not get skunked! Be careful! Spud your way out, wear your picks and carry a lifeline if you're by yourself!!
