Absolutely! I have never fished in a tournament before, but I'm really looking forward to bringing my two oldest boys out to participate in this! When I told them about it they were really excited and they won't stop asking me "How long till we go fish in that competition daddy?"

So thank you WOA and everyone else involved in putting this together!

Honestly guys.. no thanks is needed for doing this... It's a joy to see kids getting envolved and interested in fishing and all the thanks we need comes from those smiling faces of theirs!! I hope it turns out well for us and them!

Wild, does this have the same rules as some of your other tournaments? Must be alive? How many fish? Just wondering if I need to bring the water dipper to put in the bucket. We were out the other day and with the snow on the lake, the water rushed up out of the holes and had to just drill a partial hole and it filled up with water and had a live well on the lake…sweet. no NEZ... there are 3 catagories Crappie, perch and sunfish they can bring a big one (leagal) in each catagory to the scales for weigjing and recorded. Then if they catch a bigger one they can upgrade one time for each. So, only a maximum of 6 fish will get weighed per kid. They can bring them up as they catch them if they want..the scales will be on the whole time

Just a heads up guys, I fished this lake today and there is a lot of slushie slop just under the snow on top of the ice. So make sure the kiddos have water proof boots or they are gonna have wet feet.
I'm hoping the cold temps tonight tighten everything up and it won't be an issue but I figured it couldn't hurt to give you a heads up.

Great job by everyone that put the kids ice fishing derby together. I think all the kids had a fun time and enjoyed their time on the lake. They are truly the future of our sport.

Thanks again to everyone involved in putting this on. My boy (Corban) had a great time and was really excited about receiving that new rod and winning the two lure packs. He couldn't wait to get home and show his stuff off to his mom and brothers.

I had a blast interviewing the kids on and off the ice. We had 22 kids come out even though it was cold!! The wind co-operated for most of this to make it less chilly that first thought it would be. Here's a video from the derby.. Please enjoy and we can't wait until next years event!

Yesterday was the first chance i've ever had to witness any ice fishing. Took the nephews out to let them try it out. My husband and i are hooked. Can't wait to go out next weekend! Everyone at the derby was so friendly and so helpful. I thought it was a pretty nice turn out. The weather was great and the wind held off. All the kids had a blast. Glad we weren't the the only newbies out there. Lots of kids that never tried it were there.

What a great time. I had more fun during this tournament than any other time out before. Just watching my daughter catch those fish was priceless. She is still talking about winning the big perch and sunfish for her age group. This memory will be burned in my head forever. Thanks to everyone involved in this tournament. The amount of work and prizes that you got for the kids was incredible. Will definitely be back with the daughter next year…she is already asking when the next kids tournament is

I'm glad all the kids had fun. I might bring my oldest next year for it. Its a three hour drive but it sounds worth it.

Wild, quite an awesome thing for you and all involved to put this on for the kids. Nice to read about first timers on the ice also.
