Must be a dignity thing ,hanging him up with his head in the air.  Kind of takes away the majesty of a nice buck with his nose and tongue dragging in the gravel. By the way, we lost all of our ice down this way. :(

The ice on from my farm pond is still 2" cause I cut out a big piece and put it in my freezer chest .I'll put it back after the snow leaves.

It's best to hang from the feet. This way it lets the animal cool quicker, dosent trap all the body heat in the chest cavity. The blood will run out the nose and mouth.
what he said. I always do it that way.

No ice, another deer picture. This buck supposedly was photographed out in NY. when they got all that snow. If that was around here the coyotes would have put him out of situation in no time. Makes you wonder how the species even survives sometimes.

Cool picture 44...but I bet the coyotes would be way over their heads until a good crust forms.

On the question of head up/down for hanging your deer, I believe they hang cattle by the legs in the slaughterhouse. I used to hang my cattle, and now my deer head down. But a big old buck sure does look better head up!
