For me it is my shelter and heater...I can't just sit out like I used to..at least not do it and enjoy myself. And with the comforts of the shelter and heater, it makes it easier to keep my kids on the ice way longer than we would without them too.

power auger. probably wouldn't be ice fishing if I didn't have it.

I used a hand auger last year, and there were some (most) days where it wasn't fun. Definitely the auger.

I would have to say my sled, flasher, and ice chair. and jigging rod, and laker tip ups. and clam plate with drill. I like it all. And catching a few nice trout, Don't get any better. I don't ask for much........... Come on ice!

X2, it helped me really get into the sport. I picked up a snowmobile for this year so that may be a close second, I'll know more once the season gets going.

Modifying a Buck Shot Rattle Spoon with a dropper chain about 2 1/2" long.  Very deadly !       :icefish:

I have done this also. Love it in deep water. I'd have to say my FL18 is the one thing I never want to fish without. Definitely keeps you from setting up where the fish aren't.

There's a fine line between fishing and just standing on the ice like an idiot! I won't tell you which side of the line I'm on.

Has got to be the power auger. Started out as a kid with a brass ice chopper my fathers friend gave us. That didn't last long. Came back years later with a hand auger. Ice got to 2 feet and a guy felt sorry for me and cut a bunch of holes for me. Took the plastic and got a gass auger. Best money I ever spent.

I've had some sort of shelter now for ??? 20 years. The same old focus 5 heaters. Without them I wouldn't go half as much as I do.

The flasher probably comes in at number uno, but after that, I would have to say that my hardside fish house was a great thing to finally have! The amount of comfort that it gives is so nice!

I have to agree other then my Gas auger I would put the Smitty Sled on the top of my list. What a back and leg saver it is.

Thanks again Smitty.

My power auger has given me more mobility than I ever had before. Especially since I live where the ice can get thick.
next would be my snowmobile then my shanty.
Best thing I ever made would have to be my homemade jigs. They catch a lot of fish and are fun to make.

Best thing I've built: A false bottom in my sled with cut outs for buckets and dividers to keep everything from getting tossed around. No more digging for that ice scoop.

It can't be one thing for me. I would not be able to drill the holes to easy without the gas auger because of bad shoulders. Be fishing blind with out the flasher. Could not carry all my gear without my slick home made sled. Would freeze my arse off without good clothing. Built me a new really nice tip down that I hope to get some action with. Old 4wd Dodge to get there and back.
