Paul right off the bat i see we have a few things in common. we both work in health care facilities, and we both love scotch. i live in North Attleboro but will go anywhere to ice fish. you can be helped with your fishing problem. did you say you had a boat. i would jump at a chance to go striper fishing with you. i have all the equipment but lack the funds for a good ocean worth boat. let me know when you want to go. the next time i will be fishing will be on sat if you want to tag along. great first time fishing post ever. hilarious.

Its like I've been infected with some sort of bug. Honest to god, I hadn't fished in 15 years before I bought Lobster.Saw.Us. Now its like its my reason for breathing. Last weeks ice fishing wasnt enough. Oh no. i decided that Im going deep sea cod fishing. Next week. Ya that's right...The middle of f'ing February and I'm going two hours out to sea. I gotta be outta my f'ing mind.

Paul you don't have to go out two hours for cod this time of the year. They are right off shore.
Just find some rocky shoals and use clams.
My side is still hurting from laughing so hard. My wife is still staring at me laughing at the computer non stop for the last ten minutes.

This is what we need more of on the forum.
Paul let me know where you work, so I can go there if I become ill or hurt myself at least I know with you there I would die laughing.

Worked a few hours of OT this morning then drove over to BPS. Very nice guy there kept trying to send me home without buying anything but I was determined. Farkin' A this is complicated. So we're going out of Pt Judith at 5 f'ing AM on Monday morning. I tell SWMBO last night any she's pissed because Monday is apparently a holiday. WTH? Presidents Day? That's bullsh!t . That's not a real holidays, that's a BS holiday. (I'm not really pissed at the fact that Monday is a holiday, I'm pissed that when I filled out my schedule request I didn't know it was a three day weekend and so I signed up for my regular weekend on and off on Monday. What kind of an idiot do you have to be to work 2/3 of a 3 day weekend and miss the Monday time and a half money shot?)

Anyways, I'm loaded for bear. I've got jigs and leaders and all kinds of other stuff. We'll be fine... So long as we keep ourselves adequately hydrated with ethanol.

Oh and LSU is the name of my boat. It is primarily a dive boat and a 'lobstersaurus' is the goal of the hunt.

Those damn things are fast under water. And they don't have a band on there claws either. Attempted to catch one a few times.... Less painful to buy them

9 times out of ten when i cod fish this time of year. its all bait fishing. i fish the same spot your going to on the charter boat i work on

I'm sorry, I should have gotten back to you guys earlier about our trip. My pal drove down from North Adams Sunday evening and we tipped back a few and watched the Olympics, then early to bed. Up at three, dressed in the dark and out the door. We show up at the boat and meet the mate and his two assistants. I grew to really like the mate, by the end of the day I respected him a lot, He worked hard for his tips and earned them. His colleagues, not so much. One was a guy I thought of as 'Sausage' Eough said. The other was a woman who was working hard on her gin blossoms. She was acutely hung over when we arrived and cured that little problem by frequent trips back to her cooler to spike her glass from a handle of rum. She was lit by the time the sun came up. The captain stayed in the cabin, not bothering to interact with the paying custmers on the boat. We must be beneath his social class. Whatever. At least the one mate was good and we tipped him well, he earned it. If he was dumb enough to share it with his colleagues than he's a better man than I.

So it was a bit sporty out there. There were pretty consistant 10 - 12 footers all day with the occasional 16 foot roller pretty much from the moment we cleared the jetty. I dont mind that at all, I spent four years in the Coast Guard a long time ago and the rougher it is the better I like it. Rough seas are play time for Uncle Sams Confused Group. My pal OTOH, is green within 10 minutes of us clearing the dock and I can still see the jetty light when he's tossing his breakfast into the barrel.
"Jesus Jay, why did you decide to come out on a deep sea fishing trip if you get seasick?"
"I didn't know I did, I've never been on a boat before."
"Are you sh!tting me? You've never been on a boat before?"
"Does a canoe count?"
"Oh you poor, silly SOB."

I managed to catch the first fish of the day and the last. Unfortunately they were both dogfish. Cod, as the mate told us shortly after Jay blew chunks, would be in short supply that day because there was a full moon, cod spawn on a full moon and they don't eat when they're going to get lucky. That level of knowledge about some other species sex lives leaves me total flabergasted. I'm never totally sure when I'm going to get laid, this guy has it in the back of his head when an entire species is getting jiggy. And what's with the not eating when you're going to boink? My odds improve dramaticlly if I take her out to dinner and buy a nice bottle of wine first. I wish they had informed us of that teeny little factoid before I dropped a hundred bucks for the privledge of knowing that all the codfish under the boat were having a smoke.

Anyways, we had fun. Check that. I had fun. Jay? Not so much. We did head over to the Manatuck Oyster House after we docked and had a great meal. I've been telling Jay repeatedly of my admiration for the way he manned up and never once complained about the prospect of 12 hours of vomitting ahead of him. The guy has brass stones.

And I'm off to a fine start for 2014. I've already topped last years catch by 200 %.
