I do very well but to see a 6 - 8 Lb laker on camera or on top of the ice is rare. I catch and release 99 % of all fish caught because of this reason ,There aren't as many as there were years ago for what ever reason it may be I'm not sure .But I think that to target them for derbies would be detrimental . Just my thoughts and I wish not to enforce them onto anyone,just a discussion in a forum.

These derby discussions always seem to devolve into nastiness. If we make all derbies the same that's kinda boring, right? So my opinion - we need to stop trying to make every derby the same. There are already plenty of derbies for largest overall fish, and plenty of derbies for largest fish by category. I thought a tagged rainbow derby was a nice change of pace. Some may not agree, but you'll never please everyone. My big gripe is that the Meredith Rotary club has invested less into the derby this year, and offered fewer prizes. There should be feedback going back to them on that.

why not spread the wealth through out the whole board an individual species derby more big winners and higher prize money per fish.it would be nice to board a fish and actually make a profit for once

It only makes sense that the b***hn about the new format comes from laker/cusk fisherman, therefore a larger target, or the shallow rainbow fisherman. The new format should draw a larger variety of fisherman therefore spreading out the fishing pressure , which one would think would be monitarily more beneficial statewide. Everybody supposedly wins. Looks like the jury is still out.

The point is economics people, the Meredeth and I quote "Meredeth" Rotary Ice Derby is just that. Follow the origins as to why this derby began in the first place. It exists as a way to promulgate local economies and foster F&G efforts. Quite simple. Stop and realize that complaining here does nothing. Sit in on the Executive Sessions, become active in the endevours you hold dear, and be an advocate. Strength in numbers do prevail more over the simple mind logistics.
