I am new here, so be nice, ever since I moved to Michigans UP, I got a taste for pulling big whitefish out of a frozen hole!!
We won't laugh... ;) Alot of people fish for whitefish, they're just like trout really...

I usually fish catch & release so for the fight I gotta go with muskies. If I'm looking for dinner, perch are a good fight on the UL gear and great tasting.

Yet to catch any walleye or lakers through the ice (or in open water for that matter) but I'm sure they would be quite addicting.

I gotta go with whatever takes the bait.  When chasing the really big fish, they tend to be fewer in number, so there is a tradeoff.  When fishing with the kids, I'd rather get into perch or something of that ilk that is plentiful and will keep them occupied.  I suppose my favourite to date is walleye, but I was able to catch a few nice ones the day I got out to target them.

really have only fished for walleye through the ice but have set some tip ups up for pike before and it is a big rush seeing a flag fly high.  even though i havent got any pike yet though the ice i think it would be great fun.

1-Walleye for challenge and taste...
2-Laker for fight...
3-Northern for more bite...
It's important to be patient in life. ice fishing is the better place to find it and learning the real thing...;)
