I was told these fish don't count unless I post pics  ;D

First NJ trip of the year for me, you can probably tell where I was. 2 1/2" of black ice (2" in some spots) with some white patches on top. I fished from 6am-5pm and only had 2 flags, 2 small pike at 24" and 29". Not the best day and not the best spot but I got out there and beat the skunk!

First fish of the year for me:

2nd fish

You're nuts!!! I got the report that someone was out there today...........crazy dude.....crazy!! But nice fish.

The Big H center is wide open. Saw thin ice in King Cove, but highs reaching near 50 is not gonna help. Off for an afternoon sit and a late season buck instead!  :(

Budd had some pretty good fishing as little as 5 years ago but unfortunately the bucket brigade has been cleaning it out. The beach area used to have some great jigging for panfish and more pike. I remember days jigging up 50-100 panfish and averaging 4-6 pike on tipups. Now I'm lucky to get 1 or 2 pike and the jigging sucks, which is why I don't really care about posting about that spot. It shows you what happens after years of people taking out garbage bags full of pike and panfish. This is why I would never post information about spots that are actually good. Pike are tricky to figure out and each lake is different. It only takes them about 7 years to grow to 40" if there is enough food. All the pike lakes have big fish and more of them than most people realize, it just takes a lot of time and patience to figure them out.

Your absolutely right. Like 5 years ago i remember me and a friend catching over a dozen pike each outing not far from beach along 46 with a couple decent bass thrown in.  Now you are lucky to get two an outing.

Walked out 10 feet at Monksville north boat ramp and didn't go thru, 2" maybe a little more since it didn't crack but I'd wait till sunday at least. A couple higher out of the way dink ponds are fishable if the warm rain doesn't thin the ice. Most of splitrock was skimmed over but the coming wind will break that up. Lakes and ponds high and low all have near freezing water so all we need are a couple cold calm nights.

Looked around and didn't find more then 2 inches. The warm wind and rain opened up spots that were locked.

Camped this weekend at Stokes. 11 degrees each morning. Culver Lake was open water, with some ice at the shores.

Thats alright it will refreeze the next couple of nights will be in the teens. 4 inches wont melt with a little rain, doubt there was that much out there though!

I'll confirm Monksville northend had 4 inches monday on the eastside but most of the area looked too thin to wander onto. Use care and check as you go.

North of 511 was locked so this breeze shouldn't be hard on skunk even with the recent warm rain.
