Are you talking about sturgeon? If you are talking about smallies then a twenty inch smallmouth is pretty big

I can compare seeing as I've caught some really big smallies and some really small sturgeon.  My personal best smallmouth is a 20" x 16" football and it gave a really good fight on a spinning rod.  It was an absolute hog.  I've also caught sturgeon in the 20" to 24" range and they've folded my muskie rod in half.

Even when the size is the same, sturgeon win, hands down.  They're shaped like a shark and they're built for speed and power.  There's no "pound-for-pound" on this one.  Even when the size is equal (actually the smallmouth was bigger because of the girth) the sturgeon is going to give you the best fight.

Anyone who's never tried it should give it a shot.
How would you play today if you knew you couldn\'t play tomorrow?

Rainbows don't fight too hard. It has been said about smallmouth bass, pound for pound, inch for inch, the gamest fish that swims
I fly fish for rainbows and im pretty sure they fight hard in the spring kid

I  have not learned to fly fish yet. I am sure it is a lot harder, but I meant with a spinning reel. I have felt the fight of large rainbows, and it is great. Not as good as a brown trout, nut not bad. In terms of the single hardest fish I have ever caught, I once caught a bass that towed our canoe ten feet. It almost broke my did when it tried to go under the boat

I've never seen a Bowfin with blue/green fins like that before :o ... Could that be from the lake Champlain toxicity levels? ???

That adult Tiger trout looks a lot like a Laker to me.

Lakers have a forked tail, that one is pretty flat.

Thanks for explaining. You can't know everything everywhere. There arent any natural lakes in my area so everything is an invasive species. Yet the department of natural resources dosen't want certain species in certain waters. What difference does it really make for my area. Just saying.

Personally I probably would have put a fresh battery into it and then thrown it onto the dash of my car for a while and drove around.  Then I'd mail it across the country a few times.  Lastly stuck it into a box of fish sticks and mailed it back to them!!  That should make someone stuck behind a desk smile for a while....

Well, I have spent the last week in sunny Southwest FL visiting family and catching fish. Caught a variety of fish here are two that I got good photos of. I did manage to catch a rock fish which was a gnarly looking fish that screamed "Touch me and I will poison you!" The weeks species catch; Barracuda, Mackerel, Lady Fish, Rock Fish, Sea Trout, and Jack Fish. I lost a MASIVE Grouper in a channel...That fish ran with the drag set all the way taught. It wound up spooling me (200 yds) and breaking at the hook...that meant keep fishing ;D

Those gray specks are Spinning Sharks coming right up to the shore...Closing the beach right after this picture was taken.

Yeah they were pretty cool...saltwater species is a whole new world for me...I could tell what the sea trout and barracuda were but the words "What the heck is that" followed after catching anything else.

Well I guess I should post an update on my Tagged pike.
Alaska department of fish and game biologist was a pretty nice guy.
Apparently the fish with this tag was not the original fish it was in.
The first fish was much larger and was found dead in the water. They removed the tag and then caught my fish and put it in him the same day.
This is the smallest pike they had  put a tag in to date and were glad to See this fish was healthy(at least until I got a hold of him  ;D).
So the tag was in fish #1 for a year and a half. Then in my fish for 6 months or so.
He only grew a little an inch or so since he was tagged.

As for the comment about sending the tag all over here is how it works.
This is a radio telemetry tag NOT a satellite tracking tag.
The way it works is each tag has a separate frequency. To find the tagged fish they have to tune in with the gear on their special boat to the exact frequency on the fish they want to find. Then while cruising around the lake the gear tells them when the signal gets stronger or weaker as they get closer or farther from the fish. The antenna on the boat is relatively small so there is no way they could find this fish if it was placed in another fish in a different lake or in a glove box or mailed to Timbuktu.
Sounds funny for sure but really wouldn't work like a person thinks.
Alaska  Dept. of fish and game may make a few mistakes from time to time but I am sure they would be smart enough to immediately figure this shenanigan out if it could actually work.
Also the Lithium battery is integrated into the unit itself witch is completely sealed. It may be rechargeable I don't know but you certainly can't change the battery.

So what exactly am I looking at in this picture?
Is it one of those "magic eye" pictures that you have to stare at for hours before the image pops out at you?

It's a black phase of a Grey squirrel. I actually see it better in Ebour's original pic, not the one with the faded contrast.

I caught a really big shiner today, probably 8-10 inches.  They're pretty common in the lake I fish in, but today I got the first.  Imagine your tip up shiner on steroids...
