the lakes, and ponds around where i live are stuffed full with "junk fish,"and if someone wants to fish there, or go exactly where i was go for it. not a loss to me. Ice fishing is ice fishing and if i happen to find someones "honeyhole" on accident well then it prob was a good day fishing. Other then that it on to the next lake or pond.

I have a "Lake X" but I'm not the only one that fishes there.  I think we all do. I wonder if the problem lies with people fishing different places, having good results and posting their success. They don't care because it's not their secret spot, but it might be someone else secret which leads to these little tiffs.
As far as lurkers go...lurk away.... I'm no expert nor am I giving away any top secret info....not many are. The majority of the information shared here is pretty generic and can be obtained through a plethora of other sources.

I agree with Gamefisher.  I have been a member here for 6 years now.  I was a pretty experienced fisherman when I joined but I have learned a lot from a few people on here over the years.  I am extremely greatful for the knowledge I've gained and have tried to help others out along the way.  There has definitely been a big shift in the past few years.  When I joined, everyone posted pics of there fish.  That's why it was a great site, I enjoyed sharing my catch with others and seeing theirs.  It seems like there are more posts now just bluntly asking for information.  There are lots more arguments and a LOT less pictures.

Let's face it, I.S. has changed over the years.  Do you think its sheer coincidence that we no longer see detailed posts and pics from many of the talented anglers like : Backwater, Buddah, FLAG, MG39, THREECAR, Smeltslayer, Loves To Fish, Bluuu, ALASKANSS and I could go on......... (not meant to slight anybody)  Do you really think these guys no longer fish or are no longer catching fish..... come on.

I remember how I.S. used to be, you made your posts and nobody chimed in, "hey I know that spot, that's pond________"  We also developed a repore with one another before we asked them to "give up the goods".

A lot of people have spent a lot of time honing their craft on here, I for one have a lot of respect for that. ;)

I have 6-8 guys on here that I'll give up everything I know to  (and its a small percent compared to some of these guys) other than that, I'm very cautious now because of the transformation I've seen on here over the years..... :-\  The internet in some respects, is not entirely a good thing. :(

Sorry, not meant to offend anyone, just my opinion and observation.

Well said.  Things have changed.  it used to be different but now it is like everyone wants the spot you were just in.  Not saying the site is bad it isnt.  i have meet some of the best guys through this site but like mg39 says those are the ones i trust with info.  we have spent horrible days on the water in search of bigger and better fish.  in the summer we hike miles to find the right spot and after all that work i will be darned if i give up that spot to someone i didn't trust with the info.

I have no problem with people saying where they fished and what they caught-keeping it simple of course. Thats what this site is based on, sharing a little bit of info with one another. If you dont agree then why are you on this site in the first place?? If someone said im going to try lake x this weekend id drop a few pointers if i could and hope people would do the same for me thats why i joined this site. Im not asking for a honey hole or your percise method to catch fish. I agree that people should say "thats pond Q i fished it" leave it up to the person posting the pics or info. People on here say a few lakes and ponds i fish on with pics and i have seen no impact what so ever. just my 2cents

Seriously though, one other thing to keep in mind, when someone does share some info with ya, it's doesn't make it your info to pass along to everyone else.  ;)

Some cases may be true but for the most part i disagree...I have spent many many days out fishing bye myself and came across spots that were productive...But i can guarantee that other people done the same thing and found that exact spot... When someone says i found a honey hole think about how many other people have the same honey hole.....

x 100 that is exactly right.

Very well said Eric. I.S is a great site, but it certainly can have an effect on some fisheries with some of the postings. But one big positive, at least IMO are some of the people I have met and had the privilege to fish with, JDK, Jacksmelt, MG39, LovesToFish, Gamefisher & the up and coming MGK! Not only are they great people I feel they are some of the most talented fishermen in the state!

if someone want to share a spot on here it should be their choice to do so, on the other hand if they dont want to then its also their option not to.
I.S is a great place for ppl to talk icefishing, lets not make it another facebook or place to whine about what other's post.

i felt bad on sunday. haven`t been to this spot in 3 years when i went there with fishalot. brought my cousin there on sunday because he had the transportation to get us there and we both brought are kids. i found this spot 3 years ago on accident and have wanted to get back there bad. finally with 6 kids and all the gear we got out there at 7:00am. got out there and the same shack that was there 3 years ago was there again like the snow never melted and the shack never moved. we set up about 150yards from that shack and probly 300-400 yards from another but i still knew we needed to go a little closer to the shacks to get the honey but we didn`t. we were all set up and @ 8:30 the owner of the closes shack showed up to fish and while i was drilling holes the owner or the shack 300 yards away  drilled his last hole 75yards away from us.

all in all alot of ppl know of the same place as me and there is still fish there. BUT i did feel as though i invaded there space even though we didn`t and we kept are distance and we fished a  tight hole pattern. even though they still had the honey hole and 300 deg of lake i still had guilty feelings but they had tons of flags and we had some so it was great.

Exactly! Everyone gets a bone thrown to them once in awhile but usually you have done something worth the bone before it is thrown. I have gained some excellent knowledge through this site and have been able to help others out as well.

i have no problem giving out some advice or pointers, but at some point there is a limit where you have to tell the same person that keeps asking alllll the questions that enough is enough and to get out there and find out for themselves

I remember last year a bunch of people were pissed at me because I posted a picture of myself with a trout (pic below) in the picture is a distinct dam that gave away the pond. I got a bunch of pm's with people being all pissy. I then informed them that the pond was a put and take pond and that it would be beneficial to license holders to go and catch their limit. Fish are stocked to be caught! In some instances "spot burning" is not spot burning. http://www.iceshanty.com/ice_fishing/index.php?topic=123256.0

Last year I also did a little experiment with a picture of a brookie with a background that totally gave the spot away. I wanted to see if anyone would be fishing there the next day. Needless to say no one was fishing and no other holes had been cut...but that could have been because there was open water there 3 days later

Some people take this fishin thing way too seriously...
May God bless and keep you always, may your wishes all come true.
May you always do for others and let others do for you.
May you build a ladder to the stars and climb on every rung,
May your hands always be busy, may your feet always be swift.
May you have a strong foundation when the winds of changes shift.
May your heart always be joyful, may your songs always be sung.
May you stay forever young.

absolutly, i didnt mean to imply anything personal ed , if i came across that way i apologize, was not my intent.
just that i have seen so many things get really heated on here over the past 5 years and some ppl never come back on, mayby for the better and mayby not lol.
we will hopefully be out on the pond sat morning, we got to get the shack up on another set of blocks...lol...we thought 8 inches was going to be enough for the season but  not the case...lol...we got to add another 8 to get it out of the slush and it will prob take alot to get it out.

Exactly...isn't this about getting out and having fun with other people?  If you want to be a shut in and fish alone, go for it.  I for one like meeting new people on the ice, since to me ice fishing is more of a social event than a sport ;D.  I can understand where people are coming from, but really?  Its just fishing, it should be enjoyed no matter what.  Lakes are big places with lots of fish, there's typically more than one place in one that a fish will come out of.  Espescially most of the lakes you guys are catching nice trout and salmon out of are stocked, so what's so special about those?  The information for those ponds/lakes are right on maine ifw website, just need a little footwork to find the right one.
I personally do mostly trash fishing, so I could really care less.  If someone else wants to have fun chasing flags all day, I will let them know a decent spot.  No biggie

95% of the fisherman out there are not willing to work for fish.  Why throw them a bone?  I and many others on here go to great lengths to learn bodies of water, techniques, weather patterns etc...  FOR THE MOST PART I am not willing to share with people, unless I think I can learn something from their efforts.
