I would have to say Scott Freeman has had a huge impact on ice fishing in the last 10 years. The originator of IceShanty.com.

You all have a place to share your pursuits and search information about new products, places and techniques.

It was a simple idea that has grown into the epicenter of the ice fishing world. Created by an ice fisher, for ice fishers. I know my ice fishing universe has expanded in ways I couldn't have imagined.

Y'all even convinced me to get a VEX ::)

Thanks, Scott.

Back in the day shantytowns sprang up on larger lakes and stayed in the same spot until iceout.  With a heavy hardside coup we didn't move too fast or too far.  If the fish weren't biting you just had to wait them out.  Then Dave Genz invented the fishtrap and the rest is history.  Now we are running and gunning  and catching alot more fish.  Thanks Dave.

THE THREE STOOGES!

When Curly and Moe's lines entangled and Curly pulled him up through the hole and says "Hey Larry! This fish looks like Moe!" - man, I knew then this was a sport that even I could do!!! ;D

DROP THAT FISH!!!!!!!!!! lol...Thats great!!!! I think my dad had the biggest impact on icefishing for me at least...without him I wouldn't be so involved with it...and after taking almost $2000 in gear every time I go out, i think my dad has made an impact with the retailers at the least.

It's funny...We do this for fun, sport and good eats....The markteting people do it for money....and people in the Soviet Union do it to feed their family!   I just watched a special on them and Eastern Block Europeans, those poor guys, if the bite isn't on they don't eat.  I wish they had the luxury we have of this being a sport.

That being said, Dave Genz, Vexilar, and Infisherman for sure have turned what was a way for Mom to get me out of the house when I was a kid into to the industry it is today.

For me it was my Brother.  He's probably been ice fishing longer than Dave Genz.  It took him several tries to get me hooked.  At first, everytime I went with him it was a slow day.  I thoutht he was crazy sitting there on the ice all day for one little blue gill.  Then there were a few good days and I realized the fellowship then I was hooked.  Then I took my Sons and taught them to ice fish and now I'm taking my Grandkids!  We all enjoy it very much.

If you iced fished when you were a kid like I did, it was because of my grandpa, and dad. If they wouldn't have ever put the bug (desire) into me at the age of 4 or 5  Dave Genz nor in-fisherman or vexilar would have been as much of influence on me,  but as it is I have to thank my grandpa and dad for giving me the opportunity to enjoy the best outside sport there was. Genz, vexilar and in-fisherman just drove ice fishing bug deeper.

Lewis Nixon who in 1906 invented sonar originally for detecting icebergs . now we sit on the ice an use them to catch fish . that's not the leap he intended i am sure . so if you want to vote for sonar vote for lewis nixon  ;D

For me it was the power auger I bought a while back.

Before, ice fishing was an opportunity only when someone with an auger convinced me to go (rare to very rare).

After the auger purchase, I have done my own deal.
