[ Between flights/airboats, hotels, food and fuel and such a short season, I have been blowing of the erie ice and spending my hard earned dollar a little more wisely. You can easily drop 250 in nothing flat.

I have a house on the runway at PIB and my own airplane so I can get my friends and myself to the island pretty cheaply.

A buddy and I have fished Erie many times on open water but never through the ice. We always talk about trying it sometime.
What kind of info can you guys give me(us). As much info as possible would be great. Would rather go out with some guys or a guide, not wanting to learn Erie on our own.Its just to big of water and always seems like it would be very Scary.
Thanks

When is the best time? Is it a little too early yet? Im a big fella,6'5 265, and ice scares me sometimes  ;D. Do you take your own equipment or does he provide it. I have plenty but would be nice not taking some of it.

jiggin raps are my favorite when the walleyes are suspending.caught my personal best walleye on a firetiger #5 jigginrap off the north side of rattlesnake.she went just over 11#s.29 3/4''.  17'' girth a real sow.10 days I should be there if not sooner.

yes. last year made 2 trips up there, we got 2 walleye the 2nd trip. DNR up there are thick so make sure you have your helmits on you if taking ATV. Also the game warden told us last year that they are gonna start ticketing people when riding double on ATV'S. Unless your atv is equip'd to ride passengers.  I think that was our HINT, so we left. He also told us we did better than most that day with 2 eyes. I know they catch alot of fish up there but we were in with the big crouds and I never seen an EYE on the ice but ours.

I have had a home on PIB for 14 years and have yet to see a DNR man at an ice ramp or on the ice.  It is still best to be safe and follow the rules.

We will be on the island on the 15th so if the lights are on stop over. Its easy to find, its the house that looks like a control tower.
