I would call the DNR on that one, as the only conservation law that im familiar with is staying away 100 ft from a boat. If it gets too close it could be construed as harrassing a fisherman possibly? If he hits the Tip up it would be Maliscious Destruction of Property.

Sailboats strictly under wind power have the right away if I can remember correctly.  Maybe these bozos on the wind powered Ice boats think they have the same right of way.  However if you are stationary, and they hit you they would be at fault.  Some of those things are really moving and I would hate to get hit by one.  I would call the DNR and let them deal with it next time.

What lake were you on Howie?  I saw one on Devils today, but we didn't get out near it.

this is true when the 2 are moving....when one is anchored or stationary, they do not have the right away. This only applies when both are in motion under power....Drifting i dont believe applies. If i was anchored and a sailboat is coming my way, im not pulling my anchor and moving......nor should anyone.

Actually this would not be an MDOP as there is no intent.  They could be held accountable civilly however.  Harassment might be stretching it.  They have to follow the rules of the lake though.  ie. going around the lake in the right direction etc.ftp://

i would argue intent....they might not have intended to deliberately damage the property, however, they did intend to take the route causing the damage. there is usually not much snow where they go, so the flag should/would be visible to the operator.  I would submit to prosecutor and let them decide. Obviously this is all hypothetical as no one can  see the scene nor interview either party.

Boats, snowmobiles, quads etc, are all the same 100 ft, unless you are going to/from shanty/place to fish. Had same problem with the idiots running dirtbikes on the ice.  Not that I mind that they are out on the ice, it's just the matter of how they thought the ice, ONLY SAFE way in and out, and the parking lot was all thier's. We had gotten there at dark before sun up and had plan on staying all day. They arrived and tended to plowing thier track they were gonna use forcing everyone to have to walk near a open water cannal, they plowed out far enough to run up one of my old and worn out tipups. Made me mad so I went up to the guy and had a few kind words with him. It was marked the correct way and visible. After we ran out of minnows I decided to go to the store to get more well I couldn't cause I had a 20 ft truck and trailer blocking me in. Enough of this crap. I called the DNR, and sherrif department and proceded to drill 10 holes so I could fish in the middle of their track. DNR showed up Tickets for the group 1) not staying 100ft away 2) fisherman harrasment and then the sherrif  got them for illegal parking and a few others. I hated to do it but it just pushed me over my limit. If the DNR will not arrive fast enough call the police (sherrif) they can cover most things that happen on lakes

LMAO... I really like the part about drilling the holes. It sounds like something I would do.

Its fine what they do, but they need to be respectful to everyone on the lake. Summer or Winter.
