Jiffy Model 30 Diphragm replacement ??
« on: Dec 30, 2008, 01:49 PM »
Hi I need a bit of assistance.  ??? Not the most mechanically inclined but with guidance I can usually work it out.

I purchased a used Jiffy Model 30 it ran providing you continuously primed the the auger.  Cleaned carb and tank with seafoam I also changed out the Diaphragm, needle valve and replaced the sparkplug.  I also adjusted the Hi and Low speed set screws according to another post but I am unable to get the auger started.

My question arises from the needle valve replacement.  The old valve had 3 pieces, the newer valve Tecumseh Part # 630932a has four.   These are the parts the service shop said I needed and he seemed to know exactly what I needed when i told him what I needed to do.

1. Brass nut
2. Needle valve
3. Small gasket
4. Small rubber bung

The old needle valve did not have item #4 (bung).  I do not know where to place the bung and have not installed it.  It seems that it would fit over the wide end of the needle and fit inside the brass nut.

Diaphragm and gasket were in a separate package.

I have not been able to find an exploded view of the installation, any help would be greatly appreciated.

Gas leaked from the diaphragm before and now after, I'm guessing this bung may have something to do with it.  I have not replaced the gas lines they are still pliable and not dry rotted.

Any and all help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance

JK

take the rubber needle seat, put it into the brass nut with the ridge side first, then put the needle in, and gasket on to the nut

Yea, I forgot to list the spring thanks for the insight.  I will try that see what happens.  Thanks Slabseaker and Bigfjr. I'm from the Saginaw Bay area.  You guys get up that way much?  Haven't been out this year yet.

;D  That worked guys thanks a bunch.  Started on first pull, only problem now is I cannot get the auger to stop spinning at idle I've set back the throttle control screw all the way but she still wants to spin.  Need to fine tune the low and high speed jets some more I guess but I need a third hand.  Then I need to punch down some holes and see what I can pull out of 'em.

I'm not authorized to send PM bigfjr.

Thanks again

try and open up the low side adjustment screw about 1/8 to 1/4 turn, if it's running lean it will run a little fast

Could be that your clutch is sticking...Or the springs could be junk. ;)
