Anybody ever order from Johny's Pond ?
« on: Dec 22, 2008, 07:03 PM »
I did.  Let me just say  that my experience was, at best - ummmm - "challenging".   I think I will wind up getting  most of what I ordered and with any kind of luck Pay Pal  will credit me for what  I didn't get.

If you need  a pack of hooks or a spool of line you probably wont have any problems with these guys.  If you  have a big order - - - well - -- just talk to the guy and be very sure that you know  what you are ordering, and  be sure you find out when  he expects to ship.  And pay with Pay Pal or some other  card with buyer protection.

I love dealing with   the smaller local guys.  I   just  paid 36.00 a thousand for waxies at   the local  bait shop in Selinsgrove.  Pricey, I know,  but sometimes  its nice  to support the small guys (to a point).  That little bait shop is always open.  even if the sign says  closed  the lady will come out and get you bait.   You gotta love places like that !!

But  dealing with the small guys doesn't guarantee good service, or even friendly service.  I  just found that out.  My next big order will  be  with the best quality/best price guys.  Unfortunately ,that  will probably wind up   being one of the  "Big Boy"  chain stores.

I don't think 36$/1000 is pricey at all. In fact, thats the price the wholsaler here in Berks Co. sells them to the baitshop for. A lot of guys I know including myself go right to the wholsaler. He sells to the general public for the same price he sells to the baitdealers. I would think that he wouldn't want to cut the dealers throats, but I guess a sale is a sale. He will serve a customer that wants a doz. minnows before a baitshop owner waiting in line behind him that wants to buy 10 or 20 lbs of minnows. needless to say, the waxies at the farm are always much fresher than the bait sitting in the cooler in the baitshop.

The mail order  places  sell them for  anywhere from  19 to 24 a thousand.  Some want shipping on top of that.  I have never  ordered  bait   through mail order.  the guys that do seem to be happy with it, though.   I'm more of a do it yourself  person.   I'm trying to raise some.  We will see how it turns out.
