Glendo ice yet?
« on: Dec 11, 2008, 03:29 PM »
Anyone know if there's fishable ice at Glendo?  If not, when does it usually get fishable ice?

I'm an hour south of Cheyenne, so Boysen is a bit too far.

Thanks,
Andy

Andy,

We fished Glendo with the boat last Saturday and Sunday.  The water temp was from 36 to 38 degrees.  We are going to try again tomorrow (with the boat).  A cold front is suppose to come through Saturday evening with lows below zero.  I would think that will lock it up for the winter.  I hate to see the open water season go, but I love ice fishing, too.

Good fishing!

Saturday, three of us had 10 walleyes 16" to 18" and four perch that we kept - a pretty good day.  Sunday we caught one 18" walleye and a few throw backs.  Bite was real slow, but it was a nice day.  Both days we saw tons of shad minnow pieces in and on the water.  I think the cold zapped them, then the wind and waves smashed them to pieces.  The fish should have had a real feast.  Could have been why the bite was slow.

Saturday, we were the only boat until mid/late afternoon.  Don't know how the other boats did.  Sunday there were about six or eight boats out.

We will be on the ice soon.

Anybody ever do any good up the lake at Elkhorn or muddy or ???  The ice should get safe up there first.  I have only ice fished along the mountain and I like very good ice to walk across from Reno to the other side.  Even Whiskey bay should have safe ice before the main lake.  I guess we will just have to wait a couple more weeks.

Be safe all.
