well i feel a new season coming up very soon. ;D  cant wait.  although last season was not the best, tuscarora wasnt all that bad.  lets just hope for a great season and lots of ice!!!!

just looked at some local dams and ponds and i could see the edges freezing up.  great sign.  hopefully the cold weather will stay.

i tried fishing tuscarora alot during the open water.  couldnt find the perch like other yrs.  did very well for bass in early to mid season, then died off as the water get warmer.  crappies, well some nothing like last season on hard water.  gills not bad.  seen a very large muskie.  i need bigger tackle for him!

lets us pray for the cold!!!!!

Managed a few, what I consider to be dinks, out of there last season. Got some spots marked and loaded into the GPS so I am hoping to get out there early and start to find'em!

I caught some perch up in the shallows this fall but nothing big. Havn't got up to Tusc that many times this spring summer and fall. There are some big ones in the lake, I've caught them open water already. Just seems they are more elusive thru the ice. Might be up in the shallows during the winter too.

Tuscarora has some good perch in it but they are hard to find. You can normally find a school or two on the flat just off the beach area. Like most east PA lakes you will need to weed through your fair share of dinks to get a few nice ones. Last year this lake took a beating and there were a few days when there were so many people on the ice you could not move with the perch school at all.

I think you got it right holeinhide. I know typically ones of any decent size that I have found in the past tended to be in the beach area. Most notably the ones I have found were across from the beach along the small flat(s) adjacent to the channel and up into the backend.

aklimbing I am doing well and looking forward to a good ice season. I rode by lake nockamixon in upper bucks today and all the back bays are skimmed over. This lake only ices over once or twice for every ten years and its only Nov that has never happened as I recall I just hope it holds!!! scavengerj that is where i am talking about also the 25' deep flats about 15' to 25 ' off the beach. One tip the perch in this lake are light bitters even the big ones you really need to focus on the rod tip/spring bobber to see them and most times you won't feel them hit the jig. This is where the aquaview pays off.

Just read a good article on Jumbos (F+W Outdoors), and an interesting fact was that they mentioned crayfish as one of the best primary food sources  for producing big perch. I only mention it because the last time I located nice perch on Tusc. (and holeinhide was there as I recall) they were loaded up with crayfish. They weren't monsters, but 10-11.5 inches works for me every time. Also as stated previously, I drilled a bunch of holes before I found them. Might have to revisit that spot, as it was several years back.

I was there and do recall that day that is why I always have some tiny soft plastic crayfish on hand. You never know when you will need the bag of tricks. ;D

With a little luck, she might ice over tonight. The wind is laying down some, and I just saw a forecast for 14 degrees out that way. (tonight) Just hope it doesn't get covered with snow right away as that will really negate the cold temps that are forecast.

Wish it was skun over by now but with the weather the past week or so I can understand. The cove out from the boat launch should ice up fast. The water temp should be right there to make ice quickly.

sorry i didnt check the temp of the water when i was over there.  but im sure we will be out soon with the temps they are saying for this week.
there is a small damn in frackville here that i fish for trout in the spring and summer called the whipporwill damn.  that has a good layer on it, not safe at all but its a start!  not good for ice fishing, just good to try out new toys without driving far!

i will do my best to keep everyone posted
