What Flasher?
« on: Dec 02, 2008, 06:59 PM »
Ok so on a recent post i was convinced i should get a flasher instead of a underwater camera. Now i am faced with the problem of what flasher i should get. I want to get one for as cheap as possibly now that the economy is on a downfall. Does anyone know of any that might fit this? If so please post. Thanks!

I'm in the same boat that you are... I would rather wait until after the season to get one when they are on sale but I need it now!  I've been thinking I will go with Marcum VX-1, Vexilar FL-8 Genz Pack or the Aqua-vu Showdown.  The cheapest one I find in the store will get my giant wad of one dollar bills.

I bought a marcum lx-5 last year in november and absolutely love it. It normally costs around $500 but i found a sale online and paid $360 shipped to my door. Keep your eyes peeled for these types of sales.

Now i know the lx-5 is out of your price range but I would definitely recommend anything by marcum, for you prolly their vx-1. I did my research before settling on a marcum and couldn't be happier.

You have to go with the Vexilar, I got my FL8-SE Pro Pack 2. 3 Years ago and wouldn't look back, I don' think i can fish without it, I evenmade a mount for my kayak to use in the summer. It is still only $299 in most places, Worth every penny, and built to fit inside a 5 Gal bucket.

VX-1P, with the zoom and 1000 watts  it will do all that you need and more.  I may pick one up for the wife so she'll quit bugging me for my LX-5

look on ebay, right now there is a marcum vx 1 for $219.99 with free shipping, also maybe you could check out a zercom color point which is an older color flasher, that is what I started out with a few years ago, ebay has one going for $41.00 right now (no its not mine) I always watch the color points on ebay and they hardly ever go over $100.00...........MM

Sounds as if you are going to have to do some shopping  :) What someone else found for $299.00 you may find for $250.00. Ebay/Craig's List/refurbed/retailer sale, any of which could be cheapest at any given moment. I don't think telling you this one or that one is the cheapest in price right now since you know which you want to buy. You just got to find the price that you are willing to pay for the one you want.

Marcum, I have the LX-3tc and love it. Way easier to use and read then vexliar. The customer support is great and its made in USA, if your worried about the economy. :)

I started out 2 yrs ago with Vexilar FL8-se Genz Box.  I used that thing almost twice a week for 2 winters without a problem and it basically took a beating. If your looking for these on Ebay or in any used section, the newer FL8's are monogramed with FL8-se on the faceplate of the unit.  These are the newer models sport a brighter display the previous models.
Marcum make a fine model too, with some options that are not on the Vex.  Im sure with either unit, you wont be dissapointed.
