can you explain..........

Noose rig where a loop of wire is snugged around the minnow leaving one treble hook dangling from the underside and another treble on top where the cinch spot is. The minnow is never penetrated with a hook. It will cut the minnow in half with the strike.

I'm guessing that not too many people (or anyone else for that matter??) have heard of  or used this type of rig.

The point is that if you don't get a hit, the minnow hasn't been impaled by a hook and you can use it the next day. I heard they work but was wondering if anyone that visits this site has ever used them.

I would imagine this would allow the minnow to live all day instead of dying after a few minutes and essentially turning into a dead stick lure. If you could place the loop to allow the minnow to swim as well you would have the most life-like minnow action money can buy  :D.

I may have to try this, although tying a knot in a steel leader that will hold a minnow will be a challenge.

I bet this would work awsome with crawfish in the summertime too.

use a rubber band to hold the minnow on your leader. same thing, less hassle.

I use quick strike rigs. If the sucker is rigged properly, it will live all day. Some guys use way too big of hooks and put them in the wrong places, that is why their bait dies in a few hours.

If I can hang a minnow all day and not get a strike, the minnow is getting left on the ice! ;D

I beleive youe have been led astray. First of all once you put your bait down the hole that is a spent bait(bite or not) and second if you are trying to reuse hooked bait then maybe you should fish with some of use that price doesn't matter. I'd give away bait to watch someone else catch fish.

I have seen noose rigs used for spearing decoys, but not for fishing.  Interesting..

I rig shiners 3-4 days in a row if they not getting hit.  One treble point behind dorsal, just unhook him when you're done and put him back in the bucket, hook through same hole the next day.
I can't afford to buy 6-7 new shiners every day.

you must not be hookin them right then if they only live for a few minutes after hookin and sendin them down the hole.

I use large sucker minnows for spearing decoys, and rig them with a sucker harness. It would be very easy to rig up a small leader and trebil hook to one of those. I prefer quick-strike rigs for tip-ups though. Just don't hook them deep.

In all respect you are wrong IMO.  Big Pike baits are hardy and last well in my tank even after being hooked.  Big Shiners are good for 2 hookings and Ive hooked suckers 3-5 times, they still stay lively as ever.

I like noose rigs for pike, but I like to put a bell sinker on the bottom side of the noose.  When I lived in Minnesota we used 1 lb suckers for bait, and just kept a whole cage of them at the lake, so we had northern bait for the whole winter.

I use 5-8 inch suckers on quick strike rigs. Live when I got em and dead when not.  I have recovered the minnows from inside of caught pike and successfully caught more fish with them.  Seems pike don't care and I haven't noticed any difference in action dead or alive.
