Base layer  =  do not use any

Hey Mongo,  your post reminded me of a comedy routine I once saw...a guy walks into a fast food joint and asks for a large coke, the girl at the counter says "sorry we only have small and medium"...the guy is a little confused as it is impossible to have a medium size without a large size...by definition if you have two sizes one is small and one is large...same goes for the base layer..The first layer you put on is the base layer...so unless you are headed out O'Natural then that t-shirt is your base... ;D

As for me....

Base layer:      under armour top and bottom

Second Layer:  mid weight fleece top and  pants

3rd layer:        my IceShanty hoodie or Is Long sleeve

Outer Layer:   Ice Armour Suit (Ice Armour Wind and fleece jacket under the parka, dont usually wear the
                     parka

Gloves:           I wear the Ice Armour gloves to get on and off the ice, but dont usually wear gloves when
                     fishing. Weather depending

Boots:             Cabela's Trans Alaskans (new this season)

Toque:            Ice Shanty Toque 90% of the time or a Red Northland 10%

Spikes:            YakTrax Pro

I usually layer with my tigther clothing more to the inside... and the bulkier loose stuff more to the outside. ;D

Example....

TOPS: tight cotton turtleneck, looser cotton shirt, looser cotton shirt, looser cotton shirt, looser cotton shirt, looser cotton shirt, looser cotton shirt, looser cotton shirt, maybe a fleece, then a looser cotton shirt, then a cotton hoodie, then a cotton jacket, then a windproof spring coat, then my parka.

BOTTOMS: long johns, long johns, cotton shorts, cotton pants, skidoo pants.

In the end it might come together something like this....

Here's mine..
1st layer- under shirt and long underwear
2nd layer- long sleeve shirt and lined splash pants
3rd layer- fleece Hoody, polar fleece hunting pants
4th layer- 2 layer hunting coat, if its really cold/windy day a pair of unlined windpants over the fleece ones
Feet- mossy oak polypropelen socks, then thin wool socks, 1000gram thinsulate boots

Theres only 3 seasons..open water, hunting and icefishing!

Johnny... ice is forming as we speak.  But the tides are slowing things a little near home here and I don't expect I'll beable to travel safe to any pike and walleye spots for some weeks.  Brookies don't open ti'll January either... so I'm taking the time to finish up a couple articles for Esox Angler and Just Fishing.

Macker13.............. .. my reply was in jest mostly.  But I thank ya for the insight, word travels slow up to me in the subarctic. ;D  Truth is... don't much think about all them new-age layers when owning a Canada Goose Parka... don't need to as much I guess.  Next time I'll post some pics of the pike that ate my bait too. ;D
