A led light with 60 leds. It lights my portable very well. I just hang it from the ceiling.

The UFO lights Ice Dawg is talking about. Haven't we gone over this???  ;D

BTW, one thing I have always hated about propane lanterns is the fact that they are hot. Real hot. For hours they are hot. Accidently touch that nut that keeps the globe on, I did once. Thing had been off and out in the cold for 20 minutes and I still got burned.

I have a Coleman compact single mantle lantern that i used to light my portable. Last winter it was sitting on the tailgate of my pickup while we were loading things into the truck. I went to pick something up off of the ground and he bumped the lantern which was lit and it rolled into his camera case and melted a hole in it. The worst part was that the camera case was sitting next to a plastic gas can with 1.5 gallons of gas in it. Not the fault of the lantern, but it could have been very bad. I used my UFO light Sunday night and it lit my portable up much better than any of my lanterns have. I'll probably miss the extra heat that it put out though.

I use a head light that straps on my head. I velcro it to the frame of my clam scout pro,  and it's all the light I need.

I use Led lights to, they light well and 3 little batterys will last a long time, unlike the old flashlights with the big D cell batterys that went dim after about 3 uses. I have used the propane lanterns, very spendy buying refill propane cylinders, mantels, broken glass globes. (seems you bump them and they break)  Just my 2 cents worth! AZ

I use a little led puck lite that I got on ebay. I checked it last year and it stayed lit for over 4 days. That was on a 2.6 ah 12 v  battery.

I usually go home...but when I get the urge to night fish, I have a portable jump starter rigged with an 8w, 12v halogen light. It lasts for longer than I fish and is extremely bright in the trap. I can also up the wattage by switching to a 20w bulb. Too bright for in the shanty but nice if I'm running tipdowns for crappie in the dark.

Mine isn't exactly like this but close. It's nice, fairly compact and can be charged many times. I've started many a car in the parking lot with it. Stays in my truck for the most part.

I'll dig it out and post some pics.

I've used the ufo led lights and they are fine,  but I like the car/rv accessory light that takes the 1156 12v lamp. You will only get about 2 hours from a 12v 7ah battery, but great light while it lasts. This year I bought a circuit board high power led at super bright led, that fits into the 1156  socket. This thing is great, I had it on in the garage last night for over 4 hours and still going strong. Plenty of light for my Otter Den. It puts out 120 lumens and is very bright. Could probabley use it with the Vex battery but I bring a spare most of the time.

Anybody use those led "lantern-like" units.  There are some that are battery operated (like the C or D cell type), some that have rechargeable batteries and some that have a crank-operated generator to charge the built-in battery.  I was looking at them at Wally World the other day.
I think the old mantle type take too much of a beating behind my wheeler at 50 mph.  Too many mantle replacements and I don't like messing with the fuel any more.

If i plan on being out late I use the 2 mantel propane lantern(put it outside the shack for about 10min. before you're ready to go as not to burn yourself during pack up.) I also use a clip on visor 3 led light when the lantern is out side cooling off or when I stay just after dark w/o the lantern.

I was thinking of getting a HT light that is circle and white color. Saw them at wally world the other day there about 10.00. I think they have 2 or 3  light settings and possibly LED. Any of you know what I am talking about.

That is what we always refer to as a "UFO" light. They look like a UFO when they are lit up. Look up UFO led on ebay, tons of options on there.

I like mine. I have read some posts from people that don't care for their rope lights, so I bought a UFO. I don't realy remember what the complaints were about the rope lights.

They are LEDs and I have only had to replace the batteries because the on/off button was accidently pushed. I don't know how long the batteries last overall. Mine takes 4 "AA"s

I use a head/hat light for tying lures, a nuclear flash for charging lures and also have the red clam corp led string.  The head/hat light is the most convenient in my shant because of it's light weight.  I use a vexilar type battery when I bring out the led string, but instead of hanging it from the roof I lay it on the ground (actually I velcro it to the frame of my flip over shanty) so that it lights the area around the hole and my rod tips.

Oh yeah, I forgot about the light on my vexilar, sometimes I just use it to light up the holes and rod tips.  That way I don't have to have my hat light pointed directly at the hole all night.

I have the Guide series Fish Trap and this is what I use.
A few years ago I started using Mr. Ice 4ft rope LED lights to hook up to an extra battery like you would use for your flasher.
The lights only run $11 and the battery is rechargable at only $20-$25(w/charger). You can literally leave them hooked up for a few days straight before they start to go dim on a full charge. I always take my battery in to recharge after 24 hrs of use or so just to do so. If you were bad about remembering to take it in to recharge you could always hook them back up to your flasher units, etc.

I also used them in a 3 man pop-up.

They are real bright, u don't have to spend more money on baterries or propane, and they will last you a long time.

I have herd on other forms of other brands of LED lights that are not as bright as one would like and cost a lot more, but I just wanted to make clear that the lights I am talking about are the Mr. Ice light, and they are bright.

I normally have a few peices (4) of velcro that I leave velcroed to the top bar and when it starts to get darker I just pull the lights on through and hook it up to the battery. This year I am gonna zip tie them in place so they are always there and rig up a switch so all I have to do is flip the switch.

I recommend this type of setup if it's something that would work for you.
