water bag and flashers
« on: Dec 02, 2008, 06:30 PM »
so it's early ice, the ice isn't really thick.

i was wondering if anybody has tried putting their transducer in a bag of water, and putting it on the ice with out punching a hole.

it should probably work, you'd just get a big line where the ice is. but......

i'm going to give it a try but just want to get some feedback.

these days with all that topwater out there you don't need a water bag... a little moisture on the ice will work like a charm!  I do this on early ice to be on the fish without having a chisel too many holes in 2" of ice (which honestly kinda freaks me out)...

well hopefully with the "cold weather" they are "predicting" for this coming weekend, the only water we'll see on the ice, will be coming up from our holes!!

was talking to people at Gander Mountain this weekend, and they are craving ice,  looking like it'll be the end of december for them.  man i would hate to wait that long for ice!!!

bring on the ice!!!!

The trick is to carry a really large thermos of hot water and a heavy duty ziploc baggie.
Pour water into baggie and place on bare ice. It melts into ice and removes any air bubbles at the meeting of the two surfaces. Place your transducer on or in the baggie and you can shoot right through the ice.
Some morons pour windshield washer antifreeze on ice for same result with added pollution.
Not cool.

Supposedly works as a general guide for determining depth.

Later,
Glen

Yep, a quick spit on the transducer is all it takes to shoot through the ice and get a fairly good signal  :)
