Fast action at Meiers Pond
« on: Jan 09, 2009, 10:33 PM »
I know how frustrating it can be when you finally get an opportunity to ice fish and your unable to locate fish through the ice. Meiers Pond which is an old gravel pit located 1 mile West of Hubbard on Hwy 175, provides alot of Blue Gill action and an occasional Bass. Many of the Blue Gill are 4 to 5 inches with occasional keeper. I've had luck during daytime hours and well into dark.

I work in this area and checked the pond out during open water.  I didn't realize it was a gravel pit.  Can you give me some help as far as where to start? Can you give me an idea what depth were having luck?  Sounds like a nice place to take my two boys to get them into some fun.

Most people are fishing towards the West bank about 20 to 30 yards out and water dept is around 10 feet. Should be able to locate the iced over holes where people have fished. Was out today and caught several blue gills, one 9 inch and one 8 inch. Also caught 4 bass the biggest about 12 inches. Fish are biting on anything with a wax worm on it.

Thanks a lot.  I'll have to get over there and check it out.
