Dickinson County - Little Swan Lake
« on: Nov 19, 2008, 07:59 AM »
Has anyone ever heard of this lake??  I heard it mentioned and verified this lake is (supposedly) in Dickinson Co.  I grew up there and never heard of it.  Is it maybe a slough off the IGL's...Like Hottes or one of those little weed choked lakes.  Anyone??

Not a clue here either. I'll call my buddy at the fisheries dept and ask him.

Christopherson Slough / Little Swan Lake Wildlife Management Area

Looks Like it is over in Superior, east of Big Spirit.

Looks like Swan Lake is just a bit southwest of Christopherson Slough.

Yep it is about 3-4 miles north of Superior, small little lake that has very little traffic on it, in fact it doesnt even show up on the IADNR list of lakes for fishing.

No...that's what was confusing.  Thanks for the info...I saw it mentioned as a lake in Dickinson and for the life of me couldn't remember ever fishing it. I think I know why...LOL.

Thanks again..we are getting close!!!!!

I took my 14' Lund out on Little Swan over Walleye Weekend in early May. It was very shallow and dirty. I had heard reports of some nice Pike being taken from there (from IDNR reports), but we ended up with nothing other than mud all over my prop. I fished on the east side of the road.....as you may have notice, a road divides the lake.

I never did make it back over there all summer. Let us know how you do if you fish it, I'd be curious to know.

What is shallow?  4 foot?  Im not to keen on wasting precious weekend time on fishing a mud puddle.  I'm sure there are pike in a lot of those lakes and with the spring rainfall..I'm sure it was muddy.  Northern fishing in murky water isn't very productive...I might give it a try since the bigger lakes will still be open afte it has walkable ice.

Did you see any other boats there?  I still see 3 lakes...I see the road dividing the southern lake...what about that slough to the north?

Marked 3' to 4' consistently with some spots 1' to 2' in the cove. Wind was so bad the day I was on the lake we decided to troll but didn't produce a thing. Wish I could give you a better report, but Walleye Weekend provided some nasty weather.

My boat was the only one on the lake that day. I think I'm going to head up in a few weeks and try Little Spirit for a change.

BojiHawk - keep me posted when you go up and I'll do the same. Good luck to you.

So...which lake was it you were on?  North slough, east side, or west side??

I do know some things about little spirit...would def like to give that a try this winter.  I think due to O2 levels that is best fished early...IMO.

BojiHawk,

I was on the east side at Little Swan.
My in-laws have a place on Little Spirit so I fish it nearly every weekend in the summer. Just wanted to try it ice fishing. Yes, there is some nice fish in there. Not a great deal of structure, so once you find that, well....ya know.

You're spot on with the O2 levels. The water never did clear up all year long up there, even early and late in season.
