Summerizing you ice auger...........
« on: Apr 08, 2008, 04:02 PM »
Anyone do anything to their auger for storage before you use it again in 9 mo.  I was thinking of some gas stablizer, can yoiu fog them like outboards?
I live with fear everyday and sometimes she lets me go fishing

I bought my Jiffy 6 years ago and I never do anything to it. Hang it up all summer long and pull it out in December and fire her up ;) Only had to change the plug once.

My newest Jiffy is over fifteen years old, and all I do is hang it on the wall for the summer. This year I took it down and started it right up with three pulls. I went fishing with it that day with the old gas. It's probably not the best way to care for it.

I used to not summerize them, had one get gummed up once.  It actually was my newer auguer, my 20 year old I think I could do nothing to and it would run great.

Now I just empty the gas as much as I can, put a little bit of  "seafoam" in the left over gas, and run it until it is empty,

I use the seafoam in all my trucks too,  the augers really smoke when burning it out but run cleaner and better in the winter after doing it. also run amsoil 2 cycle synthetic oil.

I actually just fill mine pretty full, put some Stabil in it, run it 5 minutes, hang it on the wall.  Like many others made the switch to Amsoil at 80-1 for auger, chainsaw, weedwacker, etc.  Stuff has never run better, nice having just one mixed can.

That's exactly what I do every year. Coming on to my 18th or 19th year with my jiffy 10'' and I never have any problems starting it back up in December.

I drain the gas and then start it and run it till it's out.  Then it goes in the shed.

Hey John, they've got to make the state run some how. The governor and the tree huggers have run most of the business out of Maine. We are the only income for the state, so stop picking on our great leaders. They are doing what they can for themselves. Save the Right Whale, no smoking in a boat. ;D

with the new fuel they are using at the gas pumps you need to put stabil in the tank at the least.  you should almost always run stabil in them anyway.  ethenol is ruining engines every day.  when it sits it creates a varnish.  the residue is what will kill the engine.  stabil is what you need

I have a Jiffy 30, I run mine the same way ( I too use AMsoil sabre, @ 80-1) but when I make up my mix I add sat-bil to it then so I constantly run stabil in the fuel..  then I just hang the auger.  I will be lubing up the throttle rod and all the springs etc when I put it up..
