Morning after
« on: Apr 01, 2008, 07:23 AM »
Being the morning after the 2008 ice fishing season are you sad to see it end or ready for open water, warm weather with all the sights and sounds that go with it. I think I can use the rest for a couple of months until lobster season starts. There are things like splitting next year wood and getting the garden ready. Spring is already in full swing on the island with the flowers coming up and the birds arriving from the south. The fields are bare and the ponds are free of ice unlike the ponds and lakes just twentyfive miles inland. It's going to take me a few days just to put my gear away for another season. I did travel to more places this year and did meet more people who are just as crazy about the hard water. What always got me when I told people what I was going to do for fun that weekend was to go ice fishing and to watch their expressions as if I was telling them they had to eat beets. They just don't realize what they are missing, but to each his own. Ice Shanty is a community of people that are the salt of the earth. Have a great nine months off and I hope to be on the ice next year.

Steve

Nice thoughts, pegasus. And great pic. My thoughts are that I have mixed feelings. Sad to see ice fishing end and happy to see open water fishing arriving. Had a great season and I'm looking forward to meeting a lot of Shanty members at the banquet on April 12th.

Morning after for me Steve was a shave and hair cut, followed by a long hot water bath.
Lost 20 years and got my wife looking close again. Yes Spring is here, but man am I cold.

Great to meet you this winter Steve.  Hope to get out with again next year!  After seeing your gear and all that tackle, I'll bet it did take awhile to put it away!   ;D

Ya I'm ready for spring and so IS MY WIFE. She will actually get to spend time with me. I did spend a lot of my free time fishing. It was great to meet some of you on here. I will meet more at the banquet. Until next year good luck, stay safe and enjoy the summer !!!

it feels aweful today.  i fished more than ever this winter.  in the past i have been to "busy" to ice fish a lot.  this year i said i would go and i did go a lot.  i had the time of my life.  i met great guys from the shanty and got to fish new places.  in the past i would call and call my buddys to go but they never wanted to.  this winter i found i could post on the shanty and in 20 minites i would be loaded up to meet a new friend.  this site enabled me to get back into it.  i feel like it is the day after christmas for a kid.  i looked out this morning and saw the dreary day and said maybe i will sit on the ice a bit.  then woops its all over.  i can't wait for the ice to form again.  but i must say i need some time to warm up.  lobsters will start to crawl and fish will start to rise to flys.  in a month we will be onto a new subject but for now i say thanks to all who made this winter awesome.  my depression is in full swing.

I spent more time up North this year than I did in years past, and still it was not enough!  I get so depressed this time of year.  I can't explain it.  Even though spring and open water are right around the corner, there's something about Autumn and the approach of ice fishing that makes me feel complete.  As for the traveling part this year, I did some, but not nearly enough, and will try  to do more next year.  As for the meeting new folks, I did some of that, and plan to do even more next year.  I look forward to doing it all again next year and even more, especially with Flagasus and Hector!

I have some pills that may help you Bill. ;D It's only nine months for ice fishing and six month until bird season. Time will fly and we'll be back at it. Thanks for your part in making it a season.
