Strikemaster Mora blades...
« on: Feb 02, 2009, 09:10 PM »
My first set of blades are beginning to dull, and while I have a new set as a backup, I was wondering if anyone had info on how to sharpen these blades. Is there a particular angle? I was thinking on using something like a 600 or so grit emery cloth on a sanding block...unless there is an easier or more effective way. Is there some special angle block to use? Or is a flat file better...I've cut a lot of holes with these original blades, and I wouldn't want to mess up the angle. Any info would be appreciated.

The blades arent all that expensive. I buy new. You can NEVER get a factory edge back...unless you work for  CUTCO!!

Now that you have two sets, you can put your new set on and do a blade exchange for about half the cost of new.  I believe Fish 307 does this as  well as many other outlets.

As stated above, very tough to do at home with out the right equipment.

I beg to differ!!!
The Mora blades are flat. This makes them soo easy to sharpen using a whetstone. Oil it a little bit and run the blade over it like you would with any blade. The angled edge is almost impossible to alter. Sharpen the non-ice contact side of the blade.
It is very well possible to get a better than factory edge with a fine grit whetstone and a little patience. Sharpening curved and nicked blades is a different story.
