Jiffy Legend Lightning Model 77
« on: Feb 25, 2009, 09:09 PM »
I just bought a used Jiffy Legend Lightning Model 77.

There is a little button by the spark plug. What is this for. When I push it in, the motor stops.

Will a strikemaster auger fit on the jiffy power head?

i have a Model 77 also,i'm sure it is and mine has a toggel on-off switch by the spark-plug, that one must have maybe been modified,it must be a kill button,it must always be ready to start and push the kill button to stop it,would be my guess. Can't  answer the later question, don't know.

I'm not sure, but I think strikemaster bits are designed to spin the opposite way of jiffy model bits, so no, the bits can't be interchanged

This on also has the toggel on/off switch. The button is just below that. The guy I bought it from, said he bought it new and did'nt know what it was for.

He claims it's only 2 years old.

Is the button yellow?  I have a Jiffy Lightning Legend XT and the yellow button is a compression button.  It assists when starting the auger.  Flip the on/off switch to "on", set the throttle, push in the compression button, and finally pull the cord.

Mine doesn't have that button on it.I bought mine used at a pawn shop and that must be about 8-10 years ago.sure have had good luck with it.just have been sharpening the blade is all.good auger for me.i lied,i remember i did have to put the throttle linkage update in it,that wire linkage off the throttle handle kept coming apart on the other end and their is a opdate kit to put in.

Probably not meant to be run with that button closed in.  AChanges the pressure in the cylinders, I guess.  Couldn't tell you.  My buddy who knows stuff about engines thought it was pretty cool my Jiffy had one.  That's how I knew it was a compression switch.  Just push it in before you pull the cord, once it's running it pops out.  And if you get a false start, push it back in again before you repull the cord.

I'm really just getting to know the ins and outs of my new auger.  Everybody one the trip I went on last weekend was real happy about that.  Drilled all the holes for them this weekend becaus eI was jacked up to use it.  They got to watch and drink beer.

Thanks, It pops out when I pull the cord. I can tell when it's pushed in. Pulls a lot easier.
