I have an fl8slt when i shoot thru ice it shows green and orange marks at 5 to 8 feet,in 12 feet of water. When i drill a hole they disappear with transducer in the water. When i put it back on the ice the reappear.I had water on the ice and gain was set at 2 1/2. What causes this?

fish playin with ya!!! LOL...no but the ice thickness/clarity probably is the problem...also they recommend the gain should be set a 1 knotch for every 10 feet I think, so turn it down a bit...Just my guesses...

Or even echo bounce back coming off the bottom side of the ice, back to the bottom, back to the ducer, screwing up it's signals? Especially with the gain turned up that high.
