Fish Traps getting cheaper ?
« on: Jan 30, 2008, 09:22 PM »
I hear you guys talking about your fish traps being in great shape after 4, 5 or ever 8 years. I had a small dime sized hole in my two month old trap , no big deal right  but after this weekend I put it up in my heated shop to dry out like always and found two more holes >:(  They are not tears but more like wear holes  and are not in the same spot ,one in front ,on the side and one in the back. Any one else have this going on with there new trap ?

Maybe you just wound up with a "refurbished" model.  That kind of thing is more common than you think

Wouldn't happen to be a mouse hole would it????Mice seem to love the canvass on those things...maybe it's the smell of fish. got a couple holes in mine before I finally found out I should hang it from the rafters in my Quonset for the summer with a mouse repellant inside(can't remember the name offhand) -just know it's some kind of 'natural' thing ....looks like the herbal tea my wife drinks.

Knocking on wood.....I've had mine about 5yrs or so and haven't had any problems with the material other then some thin spots in the coating. Mine bounces around in the back of my PU with other stuff and thank goodness, no holes. And I am sure since mine is a very old model that the material isn't as good as the material on the newer ones.

Call Clam and let them know. Sometimes there are bad tents and need to be replaced. Clam has great customer service.

I've had mice issues with my Fish Trap Guide. I e-mailed Clam Corp, and they sent me some spare material. It was very easy to fix using liquid stitch. They just sent me a few spacer caps  to replace some that had broken. Plastic and the cold do not mix well. Their address is [email protected].

Sounds like you've got mice eating your shanty.  I've heard that dryer sheets help repel them.  I have a Clam 2000 and just put a few sheets in before I finish folding it up.  I keep it in a room in my basement that in my basement that I know has mice and they haven't gotten to it..... yet.

A nice bonus w/ the dryer sheets is that your shanty doesn't smell like fish slime when you go fishing.

Good luck
