how much bait lost?

I was wondering how much bait people have had to throw away this year due to the vhs regs. only able to keep seven days. I personally have been out fishing 7 times this season and have thrown away about  11/2 doz. bait altogether. each time out I take home an avg. of 4-5 leftover minnows. I used to keep them a live until my next trip. this year I don't bother unless I feel theirs a chance I may get out within the seven days I wish they would change that law to 8 days so we could use from one weekend to the next.

I agree on this one! It's not as though VHS is a freshly invented disease. These things have been around for thousands of years. No matter what they try to do, the bottom line is nature needs to run it's course and life goes on. This is just another reason I will be voting for all new blood at all levels of the government this time around. Polititions are convinced their jobs will never go away. an unscrupulous, computer savvy icefisherman could scan a bait shop receipt/ticket, white out the date, and fill in new dates for old bait. (Not that I'd ever do that).

I've heard people have kept the bait til the next week, then added it to a smaller purchased amount the following weekend, thus having a new receipt.

I personally have been buying less and fighting the perch to give me my minnow back so I can re-use it if it has any life left.

as long as you don't buy from a different bait shop, what's the problem. just keep both receipts. i doubt an ECO would give you a ticket if everything else is ok. just don't give them cause to ticket you. i know there are some P*$&%S out there, but for the most part they will most likely let it slide.

7 days your lucky we can only keep bait for 48 HRS.

So if you guys buy bait you must keep the receipt with you at all times?  Are you not allowed to catch your own?  Sorry for the ignorance here, I have heard of VHS but didnt know you had to keep receipts and all.

yes, just for 7 days. you can catch your own, but can only use it in that body of water.
