camera transport
« on: Dec 19, 2007, 09:58 AM »
Has anyone designed or know of a place to buy a stand that makes it easier to transport my camera from hole to hole?  I have the Harbor Freight camera and it came in a bag.  I really like the bag that the Cabela's Advanced Angler camera is kept in, but I don't believe you can buy that bag.  I also like the Aqua Cam setup and the spool under the camera for the cable.  I thought about mounting my monitor on top of a 5" piece of PVC that stores the battery and is used as a cable spool.  Then attaching the PVC to a base.  Has anyone designed anything like this?  If so, I'd appreciate some pics. or input.  Thanks in advance.

I've been thinking of doing the same thing, making a DIY version of a stand out of something...

I was thinking either PVC pipe or perhaps a small milk crate type container as a base and then using an old large line spool to wind the line around (actually mount it to the base on an axle with a holes/pin configuration to control depth, and a handle to reel up my camera.  I've been on a search for potential parts/ideas and really haven't gotten any further.  Currently I set my unit on the ice and look down, and have to wind the cable around the top cable holder...it always seems to slip or uncoil on me.  I need to be more efficient.  I always want my camera to be mobile yet situated perfectly, like everything else that I try to set up.  I don't want things that will slow me down on a hot bite, and my current off the shelf set up seems to slow me down occasionally.

When I come up with a design and start to construct it I will take pictures and post them.

Finally a reply!  Thanks.

I'm still working on my idea.  Haven't put anything to the test yet.  I was in the PVC section of my local hardware store the other day and saw a 45 degree connecter that looks as if it would work perfect.  I can't stand my setup now.  Don't even use the camera because of the hassel.

I'll post pics and keep you updated as well.  Seems I'll have plenty of invention time on my hands after Tues. and Wed. of this week.  I hate warm weather in Feb.   :'(

I found a milk crate type storage container that fits perfectly one direction.  I was going to use it as a base, but I think I might instead use the box to drop the camera into along with the DVR...all together.  Then, mount a spool on the outside of the box for the camera cable (gotta find one that's suitable or make one).  I was thinking about even adding feet to bring the camera closer to my view, perhaps our of PVC pipe.  Who knows how this will end up, I might just keep adding stuff to it, like a carrying handle perhaps...  I love to make my own junk!

I've stalled on the construction, only because I've been busy as heck lately.
