Sat and sun,more lake herring!

I'm not sure what's going on.The last 2 years on Temiskaming I have not caught one cisco/herring and this year I've nailed 5 in only a couple of outings.They sure are fun on a jiggin rod ;D ;D ;D

This one was on Sat.Caught on a glo-jig and minnow


This one was on a Northland slurpie(sunday)


This one was on a yellow swedish pimple(sunday)


Please excuse the blue tinge it is from the tarp that covers my hut

those fish look like whitefish to me,
but nice fish anyways!

I had a few people say that they look like whitefish but if you could see the mouth clearer you could tell the mouth is in the front of the face.A whitefishs mouth is more on the bottem of the head.I had to look it up myself to be sure.



Here is a better pic of the first one I caught.You can see the mouth better

Some of the guys I know on Nipissing say they are very good smoked and that would make sense as that is what they do with the herring they catch out of the ocean,back home in Nova Scotia.They are a really boney fish so they would probably pickle well.

Nice pictures northern fisher.
Dandy sized ciscoes. 8)

A person has to be careful eating ciscoes some of them may carry a tapeworm larvae right in the meat.
The larvae are easy to see in the meat, look like big jelly like mass with a dark center.
In Sask. here the Northern ciscoes are pretty clean, but in our more Southern lakes 95% of them have this larvae. :P
