New to the forum/ Christina Lake question
« on: Feb 11, 2008, 05:23 PM »
Hello all!
Until now I've been an "outside observer" reading posts and enjoying pictures posted on this forum. I finally decided I'd better join the party! Quick intro: Grew up in Wy, recently moved on from my job at the Cabela's corporate headquarters in Nebraska to move back to God's country (Wy), like ice fishing, fly fishing, spin fishing, bait fishing, archery hunting, carp shooting, backpacking, mountaineering (most recently climbed Mt. McKinley/ Denali in Alaska), fly tying, kayak building and pretty much anything outdoors. Oh and painting wildlife art (mostly fish) in my free time.

Anyway, with that out of the way I was wondering if anyone had any recent news on Christina Lake in the Southern Winds?? What I'd really like to know is whether or not I'd need an auger extention to get through the ice right now? I've got a buddy coming up next weekend and I'd like to snowmobile into Christina but don't want to be unprepared.

Any feedback would be greatly appreciated. I look forward to chatting with you all down the road!

Welcome to the shanty MM.  I am glad that a native son could return to Gods state.

No info on Christina, I fish for macks on the Gorge.  It seems to produce more and bigger ones than Christina.

Welcome aboard!  I know guys who fished Louis Lake which is alittle lower than christina.  They were about max out with no extension.  I would take one along to play it safe.  That's some awesome country you're headed into.  Plus, NO CROWDS! Enjoy the trip! Later KR

I fish christina every winter. Definately take your auger extension. Take a shovel too. You usually have 3 ft of snow until you even get to the ice/slush mess on top of the lake.  I will be headed up there myself next week.  Want to try the new FL-18 up there.  I  haven't heard any reports, but that doesn't matter.  PM me and I will fill you in a little better.

If not me, WHO?  If not now, WHEN?

Everyone,
Thanks for the warm "icy" welcome! And thanks for the info. I really appreciate it!

B.D., to answer your question it's been awhile since I fished Christina. When I was younger we drove up from Green River to fish Louis Lake and ended up hiking into Christina. We caught a bunch of small Lakers casting from the bank. Not sure if there are any big ones in it or not. Other than the suckers I saw near the bank I'm not sure what other species might be in the lake. It looks like it's roughly 13 miles or so from the highway.

Thanks again for the info!

Welcome to the Shanty.  Have fished Louis but not Christina.  Hope to do it before the end of season... best of luck to you. ;D
