NY Crappie Derby

Has anyone (from NJ) gone to this in the past or is planning to go to it this year if they have safe ice? Looks like fun.   www.crappiederby.com

Also noticed a perch derby with $1000 top prize at Chenango Lake, is that annual or just started?  Lots of perch or another crappie(lol) day?

Its a good time, especially for kids. Fishing usually sucks. I was there last night for 3.5 hours and marked 5 fish...bring lots of beer and youll have a good time;D

what are the prizes and how is everything catogrized with the fish is it just jigging or can you use tip ups

No look on the site there are prizes every 15 mins for biggest crappie and then all sorts of prizes for biggest fish throughout the day(several different categories) Several thousands of dollars in prizes.

Thats if they have it...wasn't it canceled the past few seasons due to there not being enough ice?

Went like 4 years ago. Fishing was real slow. Guess you can't expect much fishing for crappie during the day with thousands of people poking holes and driving around. Should have brought beer. Friend won a shanty from a raffle though.

It was canceled the last 3 years...prizes are great
