We've done this thread in the past. It's a lot of fun to see the home made stuff Ice Fishers come up with. The Ice sled thread reminded me of how inventive this sport is.

Here is a pic of one piece of artificial cover I made today. I bought some clearance Christmas Garland from a craft store, 3 - 19 foot pieces for $2.50 each. After I cut each strand in half then doubled them up, I folded them in half, twisted the lengths together, and added 2 oz. pyramid sinkers to the end of each strand two piece strand. I ended up with three 5 foot long, double strand pieces that I attached with a steel leader to some 30# line. I had some styrafoam (from some electronics) that I tied them to. I put the styrafoam inside of some old socks to keep the fishing line from cutting through it.

The garland is wire, so I can change the shape if it to make it appear fuller, as long as I can get it in and out of the hole. Now.... I hope it works.

you mount the springboard to the wall of the shack run the line though an eye on the springboard and along the flag spring (same spring as you would have on a tip-up) lower the line in the water when a fish hits the spring bobs up and down letting you know you have a fish set the hook pull the fish up
