Clam 5600 or Fishtrap Yukon
« on: Dec 26, 2007, 09:21 PM »
Hello-

I finally got the money to get a portable, but now i gotta decide on what one. The only thing i am worried about with the 5600, is that i wont have anywhere to put all my stuff while im pulling it out, and that could be a big problem. How does the 5600 pull in the snow?

The Yukon looks great, but i was just wondering if i should save $200 and get the 5600? Or just spend the extra money?

What do you guys think i Should do?

Get the Yukon, the sled bottom will pull so much easier than the suitcase type Clam 5600.  Easier and quicker to setup too.

Yukon all the way.  I had the 5600 and sold it for the Yukon.  The Yukon is really easy to set up with one person and is a lot easier to drag in deep snow.  The other good thing is all your gear fits right inside the Yukon.  I always had to bungie all my gear to the top of my 5600.  The only thing the 5600 has over the Yukon is the plastci floor.  The floor keeps your feet dry and a little warmer.

I have the 5600 and my brother in law has the Yukon. The 5600 is horrible to pull with any snow on the ice. The Yukon pulls easily and has the storage area that is very convenient. If I had to do it over again I would get the Yukon without a doubt. The 5600 other than a pain to pull is fine. I would suggest spending the extra money and get the Yukon.

i would definitely go for the yukon.  those other portables like the 5600 and 2000 don't seem to pull all that well.  many times they sink down in heavy snow, and the sled bases on the traps are deeper and easier to pull.
when fisherman fish alone, do they really catch fish??

Thanks again. I bought the Yukon. I am VERY pleased with it. Set it up yesterday, and got her out on the ice today. I dont have a single complaint. Fits 2 with lots of room, fits 3 comforably..Fabric is thick, warm inside even when the heater wasn't on, seats are great, pulls good. I have to buy a travel cover next time i get out. One question, I know clam sells a middle console, but i was wondering if anyone has made one. If so can you post pics?

Thanks

I keep a piece of closed cell plastic packaging foam in my trap to keep my feet on.  Very cheap light and durable - great insulator.  It is about 1/2 to 3/4 inch thick - you can probably buy a square at a store that ships stuff for people.
Oh yeah - BTW get the Yukon.  Besides the fact that you can haul all your gear and it pulls easier it is so much faster and efficient to use (I have owned both) -that I honestly wonder why they even still sell those Clams.  Its not even a close call.
